So this is the question. Should not be awfully expensive but not vistaprint stuff for free either.
Good quality appreciated.
Please pm me or post your recommendation here.
Thanks in advance

If you have access to a good printer, printing your own is fine for most things. I know Gideon will argue this point, but most people just want something with your name and number on it, the look isn't so important unless it's your absolute first contact. You can get software and business card sheets for less than €20 in the computer section of any department store.

Gideon won't be the only one to argue it...
In Germany, and many other countries, the business card is a very important symbol of who you are and often reflects how you conduct yourself and your business - at least in the mind of many Germans.

Who's Gideon

by the way?
Well I'm not really do-it-all-yourself person, for instance I ordered my webpage because in the era of tough competition you have to have something well-made in order to get clients.
But anyway, what do you mean by good printer then?

I think that ideally everyone should do only something, what she or he knows how to do.
Besides I can put it on my expences when filing tax declaration, can't I?

I guess it depends on your business. For me, most of it comes word-of-mouth, where my quality has already been assured by a previous satisfied customer. I don't have to show I'm serious by using a certain card stock and glossy paper, because I have a customer's recommendation to vouch for me.
By a good printer, I mean a laser or inkjet printer.
Ask Editor Bob for a name, he printed off some cards from someone in Berlin I think.

I think the point is not what you want to do, but the impression it lends to whom you give the card. It is like a c.v/resume. This may the only way that they remember you or know you. If it looks nice and stands out, so will their memory or knowledge of you. If it has misspellings, flimsy paper or looks cheap, this may be their impression of you. That being said, if you are talented with grpahic design and buy quality stock, then you can make quality cards at home.

I think business cards are very important. i tried those do-it-yourself ones for 20EUR or something and i could not get it to work. so i went to a professional printer and the result is good. the price depends on your paper and whether you chose colour or not. i paid 40 EUR for 100 cards. if you need to network a lot in your job, then good business cards are essential in germany.

As opposed to what other type you think we might all be using?
On the subject of business cards - I gave up on them a few years ago 'cos I change business so often. I think maybe I just need ones that say "Johhny English - gastronomic expert" or something.

JE, it was her question, not mine. Maybe she has a dot matrix, was weis' ich?

Yeah nice try, I bet loads of people still have an Epson LX80 dot matrix connected with the colour ribbon upgrade...not.
As it happens, on this gripping subject - are the colour lasers any good these days? Seem cheap as chips? When the first came out they were bog slow and about £5k.

Another quality idea from TT:
Print your own business cards using your €20 inkjet printer. Talk about leaving an impression, your name and phone number all over a potential customer's hands.

Shrug. I know they work because they still have the number and still use it and I still get business. Not quite the lameness that you are suggesting.

Decent card stock (White and in color/patterns) can be had from Office Depot or Staples... I wouldn't use an Injet I'd use a laser..
Most printing shops also use lasers printers for small orders, so it really doesn't matter wether you do it yourself on the same hardware or let somebody else do it... I make my own, and I bet ya you couldn't tell the difference..

If you know your way around photoshop or a similar graphic program I can recommend to order it off the net.The company we have used is www.flyeralarm.de. Great quality and price ( e.g. we paid around 40 € for 1000 cards)
Make sure you do your dimensions correctly when you design your card, because they do not correct anything for you.
Hope it helps.

I'm in the market for some quality business cards for myself (the bit which is an IT/PM freelancer).
Can anyone recommend any printing shops in Munich?
I don't want to use the net for this sort of thing. Not least I want to feel the quality of the paper used and discuss options with the printer.
With thanks,

Totally useless reply coming up as you already said you don't want to use the net:
I have used
flyeralarm for business cards, flyers, and generally printed stuff. They are good and cheap. And no - you can't feel the quality of the paper. I understand that need - maybe somebody who reads this thread might be interested, though.
Reliable service and stuff - highly recommended.

I printed first time at some place near me chippish cards for 40 euros (200) just becuase I was in a hurry on my way to conference, but I'm planning to print new cards and other pieces of corporate identity at
Zuerl. Huge selection of paper, you can touch it, you can have all in the same paper (card, flyers, envelopes etc.). Seems expensive on the first hand, but bigger order are fairly priced. For 100 cards you pay 90 euros, for every additional 100 3 euros.
I don't have yet any personal experience with them, so it would be very kind of you, if post some.

Thanks Natalia,
For some reason I didn't check them out.
I aim to do so on Saturday. 90€ for 100 does seem a lot but 93€ for 200 feels better.
I'll post here how I get on.
Cheers,

Hey there TPWNN -- did you end up using Zuerl for your business cards? How was the service and how do the cards look?

As we've had all our wedding stuff printed and are very pleased with the results I'd like to post a thumbs up for:
Druckerei:
Krenzer u. Koenigbauer Offsetdruck GmbH
Gebsattelstr. 2
81541 Muenchen
Tel.:089 483399
The shop is run by an old couple and I'm 100% sure they don't speak English but they were friendly and helped us a great deal for a very fair price. They can print sizes from business cards to posters, on paper of all thicknesses and will drill, fold and bind things too. As is usual you need to check what they're up to but the few mistakes they made were corrected without fuss. If you need something more interesting than printing onto 80gm A4 then I'd given them a try.
