Since it just started to snow, I was thinking about whether times or schedules would be affected due to heavy snowfall. Obviously for underground trains, that might not be a problem. But when trains in Munich are outside in the open, can there be a danger. Do you guys know anything about this in the past. Were there ever any accidents due to snow. Just wondering.

No.
I can't remember snow ever being a serious problem. Not in Munich, anyway.

Of course DB,MVV and MVG would want you to believe otherwise to cover-up their incompetence...

Better question would be "if a train left munich at 70km per heading east, while another train left St petersburg 15 min. later going 125 km per heading west, what time would I arrive in NYC?"

When I used to live in Oberschleißheim, the SBahns were always late when it snowed. Always... Never heard of any SBahn accidents directly caused by weather/snow etc.

It has been known to affect the S.Bahn and overground U-Bahns in Berlin...
or that was just an excuse

Would that be St. Petersburg, Florida, or St. Petersburg, Russia? It might affect the ETA by at least 15min.

Indeed. My S5-Herrsching was 16 minutes late this morning ~0800, causing me to miss my bus so I had to walk 3K to work in this lovely weather.
Anyone know where I can get some good snow boots??

There's a particular problem with the S-Bahn. The Achilles heel is
Ostbahnhof where it often happens that simply due to low temperatures the ponts freeze up. It's a domino effect that that throws the whole network.

There wasn't enough snow today to cause the points to freeze, besides
Ostbahnhof and
Hauptbahnhof both have crews of people who's sole job is to clear snow from the points. Most points are heated so snow isn't a big problem. It's the ones that arn't heated and require a human touch that are the problem...
Next time it snows alot and your on a train look out at the points (Switch areas) and you will see that on some there is no snow, and on others there is...

Yesterday - no snow - journey to work 1 hour
Today - a little bit chilly and some snow - journey to work 2 HOURS !!!
W.T.F. is all I can say. Its not like the
MVV don't see the stuff on a regulary effing basis.

i just check the db website for you and they are showing some current trains having a 10 minute delay but all trains leaving this afternoon are showing as "pünktlich" which means they don't know yet. Better to check closer to the time.

All I could find is this:
VerkehrsmeldungenDoesn't say much for today except: there was snow and it could lead to delays. Gee, thanks.
Good luck!
