Parents in Bavaria are legally obliged to insure their babysitters against accidents.

This also applies even if the babysitter takes care of children only occasionally for an hour or two at a time.

Parents who fail to register for insurance can be fined up to €2,500 in the event of an accident.

Parents are employeers, babysitters are employees.

The insurance premiums are €43 to €86 per year.

To learn more, or to register your babysitter online, see:

Wouldn't Haftpflichtversicherung already cover this?

And what happens if you have family or friends babysitting for free? Do you need to insure then as well because they are doing you a favour?
