there are many ways to say it, i just cant see this happening.

i genuinely worry that the english are building themselves up for a big fall. with the quality they have they are right to be confident but look at the way its being run. i just think most cant see the wood for the trees.

post predictions here.

OK. Serious answer to your post. My feet are truly on the floor. Yes, we could have a good tournament but we still need a lot of luck to even come close to winning it..

btw. Hell Freezes Over - great Eagles album

honestly ive been dry for ages, well since the weekend, as i am in training tongue.gif

good honest answer crawlie. im glad you are being honest with your predictions and not getting carried away as most of the hooligan race tend to get wink.gif
YorkshireLad6
Still not dry enough to co-ordinate that second hand onto the "shift" key or the odd apostrophe, however...

sorry to say, but if Brazil dont screw (best generation of players from the last 15 years or so), I think you have almost no chance.

But thats one of the nice things of football and WCs, even average teams can go far and eliminate the big ones in the way.
tomtamer
as much as i wish it could happen...it won't happen, fellow english fans, PLEASE don't stop dreaming. england has a capable squad, but let's face it is by far not as good as others. unfortunately... the english, and in particular the english media, are very good in building up an illusion that we're the best in the world and that only bad luck prevented us from winning it more often in the past...but hey, pleaaaaaaaassssse. it's just a illusion.

see how negativety comes back and bites you in the ass... tongue.gif

as long as England aren't based in Munich, i'm not overly bothered one way or the other, really
AfroKomb
don't worry we'll be on our best behaviour and there will be no chair tossing with the tunisa this time...lol
Sin
I'll tell you something. I didn't think England stood a chance of winning the World Cup next year... until Schotte gave them his blessing.

The last time Schotte made an England prediction we beat Australia at Rugby Union, Argentina at Footie and New Zealand at Rugby League all in the same afternoon.

All of a sudden I have hope.

Thanks Schotte mate... and COME ON ENGLAND!

So, if you like punk music, then get the new Peter and the test tube babies album, the "Smiling through the tears" song, meant to be their WC anthem, is hilarious.

Crawlie
Well coolerking, maybe England WILL win and the players get their bonuses. Then you could plead with them to send you the money for a keyboard that has a functioning shift key

you really are a sad fucker aren't you schotte ?

all your posts are filled with envy and bile about a country that do win things instead of about your own country winning nothing

for christ's sake, get over it, you were born inferior and your trolling just makes it clearer

if england manage to get to the semi finals . owen gets injured , beckham gets a red card , so both can't play in the final then yes its possible .
p.s does anyone want a bet who gets a red card first in the wc rooney or golden balls beckham
yossarian
While it makes me ill to even type the words, I think England matches up better with Brazil than any other team in the WC. I refuse to annoint Brazil the champions while having a liability at the Left Back positon in Roberto Carlos. If the English midfield was organized properly, Rooney could have a field day.

Biggest problem for England is not having a solid keeper to organize the back. They have just as many offensive weapons, it is just that no-one can touch Ronaldhino's skill.
Sin
I dunno yossarian. Robinson is 26 years old with 18 caps. He is getting better and better. He's also getting good playing experience in the first team at Tottenham. He has conceeded less goals so far this season than Lehmann and van der Saar. Personally, for this early stage in his career, I would put him better than David Seaman. Injuries being ruled out, I think he will have matured perfectly by June 2006.

Obviously England have some weaknesses; Rio Ferdinand taking over the Muppet mantle from David James, but there is still 6 months, and I'm sure at least another new wonder-kid will appear in this time frame.

The last point is that Brazil have got the trophy to lose. England have everything to win. What has been so dissappointing about England is that they have failed to rise to small challenges. Argentina, whilst technically only a friendly (no such thing possible against Argentina), was a superb game, and showed something had changed. England kept attacking and attacking and attacking. In the end this paid the dividends at the death knell of a classic encounter.

With regards to keepers, there are also others coming through, Carson - But does not seem to be getting enough games, and Kirkland - If he can stay injury free long enough, a good backup prospect for Robinson, who has been playing well. England have also been using other players to fill the defensive roll, King has been playing really well as a holding midfield player but can also fill in at the back nicely, then Carragher's form has continued to improve, Terry is another great player, I just think its a matter of trying to get all these players into one TEAM and get them playing as a team. England have two fantastic midfield players in Lampard and Gerrard. Rooney and Owen seem to be developing a great understanding, actually I think the biggest problem right now for England is up front, the backups seem to be falling away. Defoe cannot get a game at Spurs now, Crouch is still not there yet.
Dally M
Hope the English are knocked out first round.I hope that the English can behave themselves and also they dont win as we will be hearing how great they are for the next 40 Years! rolleyes.gif Couldnt give a stuff who wins it as long as not England.
qwerty
USA win win the World Cup. Refer back to this post next fall.

Australia will also beat Brazil in the first round

Damn! That Jaegermeister is strong qwerty.

@sin,

Being a life Spurs supporter (wait for the laughs to subside...wait...wait...OK), I have to say that he has not been spectacular, but that could be due to the fact the Spurs are actually playing a little defense ahead of him.

Agree with the DeFoe comment. He seems to be caught up in the limelight this season, yet he doesn't stand a chance to break into the starting 11 until 2010. Rooney (or Goonie as I like to refer to him) is the main target up top and Owen has one more WC left in him before his speed leaves him as a middle of the pack striker.

While I think England has one of the strongest midfields in the WC, as mentioned with Lampard et Gerard, believe it or not, this could be the chance for DB to elevate himself to deity with a decent showing. He is not the show for England, but he could shine from the outside by setting up Rooney rather than looking to fill the net himself.

Time to go rinse my mouth out for actually complimenting the Red and White and return to my regularly scheduled English bashing tomorrow.
Hazza
The English need to change the words of the Football's Coming Home song for the world cup.

By then it'll be 40 years of hurt tongue.gif
