According to the latest S-Takt (PDF) the S-Bahn maps and routes will be changing yet again.

The "Kaos" begins 11.Dec.2005 when they add two new 10 minute takt routes, a new station and a few other changes to include some bus lines.

The S3 will again be removed from service, perhaps it will return when the 2nd tunnel is opened in 2010.

Add to this the increase in ticket price on 1.Jan.2006.

See the mag for more details.

For those that don't understand German or just want the changes here you go...
  • The station Nannhofen will be changing it's name to Mammendorf (Trains signs to change too)
  • The S3 will cease operations
  • Line S4 will now run from Ebersberg to Mammendorf (With 10m takt between Maisach bis Zorneding)
  • Line S8 will now run from the Flughafen to Geltendorf (With 10m takt via a change at Laim towards Dachau.
  • Line S2 will be getting 10m takt between Ostbahnhof and Dachau.
  • The number of SBahns thru the Stammstrecke will increase to 1 every 30min (30 per hour)
  • The new station in Untermenzing (Line S2) Will Open.
  • The timetables will be updated to add/drop certain times/trains (Check your schedule/timeplan)
  • Affected busses included: StadtBus-Linie 192 in Neu-perlach , Linien 131 und 152 via Viktualienmarkt
  • Ubahn- The U8 will cease daily operations between Neuperlach Zentrum and Feldmoching but will remain for special events and as an overload. The new route will only operate between Neuperlach Zentrum and Harthof.
There are a few more changes, but to major to mention.. Just make sure you check your trains/bus/station/stop schedule for changes before 11 December.

Please note that the 10 minute takt is only during the morning/afternoon rush hour on workdays.

one every 2 minutes, then, surely?

I don't see why you call it "Kaos"
the changes they introduced last year worked pretty well, IMHO

I don't see anything about introducing a 10 minute takt on the S8 in the article. Just that it no longer runs to Nannhofen (or Marmendorf as it will be called), but rather to Geltendorf.
I had in a previous article read something about a 10 min takt to the airport, and hoped this meant the S8 was to get a 10 min takt. But it actually meant that the departure time of the S8 from the airport was to be changed so that one S-Bahn departs the airport every 10 minutes. At current the S8 leaves 6 minutes after the S1, and the next S1 leaves 14 minutes after the S8

Thanks for typing this up, DK; I haven't had time till now!

Just a piece of extra info: The S-Bahn from the airport is running a 40minute takt on the weekend evenings for the next couple of weeks. So if you need to fly out or are returning at the weekend you could have a long wait!

@Persius

The 10m takt is NOT on the S8, but is avail to Dachau via a transfer at Laim... Hince the cause for the rerouting.. Trying to make things line up.

@Darkknight
Thanks, got you now.
Pity though. A 10 minute takt for the S8 would have been handy for my work commute.
Mr.Mosh
I really don't understand why they haven't got a 10 minute takt on the S8..
Is it because it shares the tracks with DB trains part of the way?
benpanter
@MM: Probably because it is not operating near capacity? Better to have one train every 20 min 40% full than one every 10 min 20% full.

It pisses me off that there will never be a 10 minute takt on S2 between Ostbahnhof and Erding (becuase of the other trains that use that stretch). When I get to the station early, the train is always late; when I get there ON TIME, the fucker leaves 10 seconds early. I swear, my average waiting time for the fucking S-bahn is greater than 20 minutes. mad.gif
MonksTown
The Erding line is a NIGHTMARE, I communted to Feldkirchen for 5 years. mad.gif Improvements are supposed to be coming with S-Bahn only tracks in the Berg am Laim area.

Oh changes to the 131 and 152, more Glockenbachtastic into town! biggrin.gif
UrbanAngel
@Mr.Mosh because they still haven't finished building the 2nd track. There's only 1 track part of the way, but they started building a year ago for a 2nd one, mainly between Johanneskirchen and Ismaning I *think*. The Unterföhring station has been given another platform, but it's not in use yet.
The original info from MVV at the very beginning was that the S8 would be given the 10-Min-Takt as well. Kept me sane through the weeks of 40-min-takts. I0m hoping at the end of all the building that they'll keep true to their promise, and not just have it on half of the line.

@BenPanter - hardly true, the SBahn's always a-bustling whenever I take it, either in rush hour or late at night.

Tell me about it. I work in Allach so I'm on the other side of the S2, and I'll be enjoying the 10-minute-takt soon then smile.gif
Am very much looking forward to this.

The new underground Unterfoehring station is now being used, which means that finally 2 tracks are in use. I hope the 10-Min-Takt will come some time soon.. espcially because they changed the train times again and now I have to get an earlier SBahn to get to work on time, than the normal SBahn I took, bah humbug.
