Fasching 2005/6 began today!

To celebrate Hacker Pschorr has been giving away free beer on Marienplatz!!

Do they deliver?? I'm pretty thirsty here at work.

Munich will even see its first Fasching parade (German) in 35 years if the Damische Ritter Fasching club has its way.
HollyGolightly
How is it possible I forgot this! Anyone know of anything fun going on!
Topsy
dammit, why didn't I see this yesterday?
I can't stand Fasching, normally, but if there's Freibier involved then I'm all for it biggrin.gif
Hutcho
Does anyone else find it ironic that at the exact time that places like Britain and Australia are remembering their war dead (mainly from German wars) , that Germans are starting to party hard?
sarabyrd
@Hutcho: They don't do it on purpose, Karneval has started on 11/11 at 11:11 am for donkeys' years (as a couple hundreds). It's just ironic that the same date was chosen to sign the Armistace.
Hutcho
Sure, I know they didn't pick it for that reason, but its still ironic.. or maybe ironic isn't the right word.. I don't know..

I know what you mean Hutcho, I thought the same thing...

Don't forget, for the first time in 36 years there will be a Fasching Parade this Sunday (19 February), starting at 11 am at the Hofgarten and ending at Löwenbräukeller on Stiglmaierplatz. It is organized by the Damischen Ritter (meaning Silly Knights, sorta reminds me of Monty Python's Camelot), a local Faschingsverein.
There will be floats, groups on foot and other loonies and an after-parade-party (admission fee).
