sekt,

what is olympia park like for mountain biking, are there many nice trails, does it compare well to Tegernsee, Garmisch or Kampenwand areas? Are the huts still open at this time of year?

Bannockburn

I do a 5.5Km route which when repeated gets you a nice cardiovascular workout. It is great for those who want to condition themselves before hitting the big hills down south. It is basically the same run as the 24 hour marathon but with some additions of more uphill. You get some nice, short downhills which allow one to practice small technicall things like steering with your legs, bunny hops, weight shifting, etc... without the pain of doing 75 km/h down a rocky trail in the alps.

I am there a lot and you will see me on an orange hardtail.

Bannockburn,

Halfway up the hill there is a nice little bier hut with big umbrellas. Perfect place to stop b/f you get to the top... cool.gif
Sekt88
I´ll be in OlympPark again today. I should be there by 1:30.

Please no dog jokes.
UrbanAngel
Do you cycle up/down the Olympiaberg? I couldn't believe it when I saw someone biking up there. I even take the easy route when walking!
canuck
I thought the beergarden is already shut...too much snow.
Bannockburn
too much snow, hence the ski goggles...?
kit
The biergarten is in a rain shadow so it gets little snow. I heard 5 sherpas died last year trying to ride their bikes up the Olympiaberg...such a waste of young life...
Bannockburn
Wow, Kit, you have finally found your sense of humour!

The idea of a ride here is getting more challenging by the minute cool.gif Is Lurch up for it or is it too much excitement for him?
Sekt88
yes I ride up and down, repeatedly. If you think it is hard, I would try and master it before you hit the real hills of garmisch. if you are out of shape you risk massive pain in your chest in garmisch. no joke. as I have said, I am in ollympia park alot. I will always post here when I hit it so don´t be shy. after three or fours weeks of riding with me, you will be in much better shape. I promise you.
Crotaline
Lurch aint around right now, but as his latest victim, I have considered openeing a thread for those injured during his 'escapades'.

The Race in a Salt Mine

As for the Olympia berg... do that climb enough in a day and you'll build a decent amount of fitness.
Bannockburn
Hey Crot,

At least you had something to rub into your wounds!

More importantly was the bike okay, or did this unfortunate incident ocurr whilst spectating?

... and spare us the tatoos!

His knee and leg is a lovely shade of blue/green/red and don't forget the sexy mesh stocking that the ol' er, boy is sportin'. A little camisole and he'd be nearly irresistible.

Might have to cruise out to the Olympia Park and find this route. Seems as though it's probably pretty close to our apt. in Schwabing. Any maps around the web I can find with the route or is it relatively easy to find?

Danke.
Sekt88
there are manyroutes. it is not so big. explore and make your own.
I will post the next time it hit it.,
UrbanAngel
Hooray for Lurch biggrin.gif He's well and truly mad!
Bannockburn
Hey Urbanangel,

Yes, I totally agree with the second part of your statement wink.gif

Poor man, he's not even here to defend himself biggrin.gif
ninjavore
How'd he do in the race?

Also, is anyone going for a ride tomorrow?
Tom17
Did a couple of laps round Olympiapark this morning, going up the Oly-Berg for 7am to catch the sunrise. Was a nice cycle. I still want to find this route that pierre does though.
Sekt88
If my mother inlaw get here in time, I´ll make it to OlympPark for at least 6 rounds.
I´ll post in a little if I go, otherwise I will be there on Monday as the weather should still be nice.

It was a nice day. I got 7 (38.5 km plus another 30 km to and from home, not a bad day km wise)rounds in. Lots of people so no real speed on the downhills possible.

WAY TOO MANY 4 legged animals, everywhere! I hit two piles of shit! 90% of the dogs off the leash mad.gif

The same dog owners with the unleashed dogs shaking their heads at me for riding down the cobblestones whilst their poor little hairy rat poodle jumps in my way an almost gets decapped. They yell at me, then I tell them they need to have the dogged leashed, it´s the law. they blabber some more, I ride off.

anyway, monday looks to be nice. I´ll iinform if I hit it.

You always seem to be cycling in the week.. I guess you have some cushy number at work.. oder? smile.gif

Can you describe the route you take? Say starting from the hill. Or starting from down by the stadium if you go through the central bit.

When I was going up the steepest-cobbles up near the top this morning, I had to stop cycling as I was just spinning the back wheel - too steep for wet high pressure tyres :-(
Sekt88
tell me some times you know you will be there and I will show you.
