This Sunday it does, they're doing the Oktoberfest brunch -- and 4 pm is just an hour before regular opening hours anyway so I'm sure they'd be happy to open then anytime we want.

i have that day down as cake eating day.
Do you think we need a "which cake thread"?
I'm considering carrot but might be lazy and make double chocolate fudge *again* (due to butterbean's devotion to all things involving buttercream frosting).
Do I bring cake on Sunday (this is a stupid question)?
yes you bring cake but no nothing you ask that results in you bringing cake is a stupid question

I volunteer to be a Versuchskaninchen too.
Haven't read any of the books you are discussing but I certainly like cake. Is this meeting still on? And is the location decided yet?

far be it from me to tell you how to organise your own meeting, but I think it would be wise to set a firm date and time now, cos:
1) not everyone logs on at the weekends, so a decision at 5pm on friday may be a bit too late
2) if it is 4pm at Twisted, then that means them opening up earlier for us, and they would need a bit of notice, I expect

I'm not organizing anything. The TBooExCom is a fully democratic social collective. I am merely acting as a facilitator. However, your point is well taken. Further discussion will be suspended as of midnight tonight (Thursday). Are there any time contstraints from anyone?

I am planning or I should say hoping to be there. I plan to be at the OFest saturday and that will be the deciding factor for sunday.

I am unexpectedly awake at the moment. I was lying in bed, innocently reading some Jane Austen, when I got called out and suddenly here I am, conscious long after I expected to be. Anyway (or anyhoo as some would put it) the final meeting location is Twisted Bavarian (really? couldn't we do better than that?) Anyhoo. The time is 4:00 pending their ability to open at that time.
I love the new colors. Ooh, colors...

Actually I never did. I'll give them a call this afternoon (presuming there's anyone there to answer the phone) otherwise, I'll be there at 4:00 sitting on their doorstep waiting for something to happen.

Rumor has it that "
The Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera was chosen. Available via the link given (although mods might want to update that to whatever TT needs to get credit for a purchase via the link) or your local library. I know for a fact the Gasteig library had a copy in their English section.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being was indeed the first book chosen. However, be aware that we have also decided to limit the number of members of this group to 10. You all know who you are. There was considerable interest in the original thread, so it shouldn't be too hard for people who were unable to attend this evening to form another group. In addition, we will also start threads for "intermediate" discussion in advance of the next meeting for people to chat about the book while they are still in the process of reading it.

just want to point out the TB is the only bar that has a free lending Library, so question your quote (couldn't we do better than that?) , try the Shamrock next time and see if you can read in peace, or if they will open up early for you.
bottom line the TB is trying very hard to add some culture to our community (Arts, Dance Music...), I really take exception to the comment.

thanks dd, both me and Sarabyrd would have been down to the book thing today but we are suffering from the last bits of the flu, but we will be down at some stage tomorrow, and i think we have 5 ruck sacks full off books to donate, most i admit have are seriously good reads if you are a geek...visual c++ in five days...the complete oracle programers guide to API...maybe the TB should become the lending source for all computer related exams...

Oh - I am a geek, but not cool enough to be into programming. Now, history, dictionaries, reference works, etimologies ...
And since the weather is getting worse I am looking forward to indulging in more books. Time permitting.
Hey Saan, that beer is Kasteel after all. I found it in my Bierlexikon. Makes great reading, and the beer does sound great too.
http://www.pepperworld.com/default.asp -- this is a place in Germany to get more chiles and slow-bolt cilantro. I haven't ordered from them yet, but I'll get around to it. They're on the Bodensee, which is a nice weekend trip from Munich. Did not find any fresh chiles on their site after all.

Because a few people had asked, I'm providing a brief update about the TT Book Club. At our initial meeting, we decided to limit the membership to ten people as any more than that would preclude meaningful discussion. However, this does not mean that people can't go out and form their own book club- there seemed to be quite a bit of interest- or discuss the current book online (or sit around and eat cake or whatever).
This month's book will be
The Robber Bride by Margaret Atwood. Feel free to discuss it here.
Note, you are currently reading the discussion archive. For latest info see: TT book club - current discussions

I say open it up to all and then if in December we have too many showup, we can break into 2 groups. I would like our original group to stay together though as I really enjoyed our discussion yesterday!

I haven't actually got the book yet. I'll be picking up a copy while in the UK next week as it appears not to exist in Munich.
Are you purposely trying to keep men out of the club, or do you really like Margaret Atwood's writing? (edit - just checked profiles, sorry gents)
I ask as a Canadian man who was forced to read Surfacing in high school by a self-admitted feminist English teacher. Put me off Maggie for life.

Seriously though, not having read any more of her work, while it is surely a well written book, is it something that a guy who loves to read would love to read?

you can also go to the Hugendahl in Salvatoreplatz near
Odeonsplatz, which is English language only

Has anyone finished the book yet? I've made it about halfway.
