Kirsty,

Check out the Toytown Tuesday drinks at the pub thread. A great way to meet a lot of new people at once. We're really just a bunch of harmless drunks.
TexasTornado
Oh yeah, there is Karokee at Gunter Murphy's tonight always big fun! and with Toytown's infamous Jimbo in town for the weekend, a good time is pretty much guaranteed. Tomorrow (Monday) is the almost famous pub quiz at The Arc and if you can read, we have an English lending library at the Twisted Bavarian.
grazzenger
ah, lively young scottish boys?! i'm now a recalcitrant old scottish bloke. oh well, try any TT event to meet the crowd, particularily those associated with eating and drinking!! have fun!

Pint of Helles for those who want to wager on

1. Is this an alternate ID?
2. Is she a he?
3. Will the education system in Scotland improve in the near future?
4. How many PMs did he/she receive

Anywho, as Sin said , welcome to the TT Train.
Exile
It seems to be a trend in the UK, kids grow up using SMS and then use the same style for other forms of electonic communication.

Curry Nights are always a good event to meet both old and new TTers.

Especially one wearing a kilt. So, what do lively young Scottish girls wear under their kilts?

actually the standard is already better than england. advanced highers are regarded as superior to a levels, and many of the english unis are giving preferences to our system already.

1 up.

Keydeck
Any chance you guys could find the Shift-key from time to time and chuck the occasional handful of punctuation at the screen? Would make reading your entertaining posts much less of a headache. Cheers. wink.gif
kiltedkirsty
that is too much like hard work lol - anyway us young uns of the world learn the sms speak and just have to use it everywhere lol it faster and easier - i did get an A in english honest
Inflatablewoman
I have to agree with Keydeck on this. How hard is it to hold down SHIFT while pressing i... to make it I???

That pretty much sums it up for the state of the Scottish education system. A fucking fourth-grader in the US would be failed for writing as atrocious as that.

This is the Intarweb, not SMS. Extra letters don't cost.

If you can't be bothered to exert the incredibly small effort to actually write properly in your muvver tongue, I sure as hell can't be arsed to read it. It can't be that fucking hard to spell correctly and use capitalisation and punctuation. Not even for a Scot.

woof.
Keydeck
Bugger. I agree with BadDoggie. Damn, damn and double damn.

Forgot to mention, Kirsty, welcome to Munich.
qwerty
Mysteriously I do too

Is her real name Grant?
tartan
Of course 4th grader's in the US can spell they are usually aged 25, unless of course they get a "sports scholarship" in which of course no spelling is required.

Didn't realise TT was an ongoing assessment! So you know the Scottish education system quite well then? Please, enlighten us with you best google results!! Were you the 'fucking' fourth grader who failed for not writing as atrociously as her?

Mm-hm. Fourth graders in the US are taught that apostrophes are not used to form plurals. They're taught basic sentence construction and when to add "when" to a sentence. they're taught comma offsets for parentheticals and other such constructions as the insertion of an "of course" in the middle of a phrase expressing a single train of thought.

Consider this: an American is currently lecturing you on English. He is right and every tome on the subject backs him up, British and American. If you want to be smarmy and turn this thread into yet another American-bashing discussion, you'd do well to first post without including a dozen mistakes of your own.

Pot, kettle.

I see your point but I used writing as a noun, not a verb. Lest I be accused of post facto editing, I wrote "...atrocious as that," not "as hers".

@dadboggie

Thankyou for your informative reply and I am very sorry if I have upset you with the tone of my reply as well as the quality of my grammar.

Tone: In no way was I intending to "bash" the US merely take the piss, following what some might say is a sweeping generalisation aimed at the Scottish education system.

Grammar: I am also deeply sorry I forced you (against type I am sure) into what some might say (not me!) was a pedantic attack on the grammar in my post. This was surely my fault also and it is my wildest dream never to drive another member of the human race to this painful extreme ever again. I believe that we all should now take a leaf from the French language and make sure it is pure and unsullied by change, frozen forever in golden grammatical nugget. We can all take heart from English literature in this matter and it is my personal aim to improve myself through new learning experiences, as Chaucer put it: "And gladly wolde he lerne and gladly teche": Ah the beauty of the unchanging English language.
