If you want to be smarmy and turn this thread into yet another American-bashing discussion, you'd do well to first post without including a dozen mistakes of your own.

give me the stick and i will bash. you should know that at one time our education system was second to none and this was shown by what our nation gave to the world, ie. a hell of a lot more per head of population than most countries, including Fat Sam.

@ kiltedkirsty, scotsman, tartan,

keep up the good work, we are the best wink.gif

If you see the letters ß, ü, ö, or ä you may have a problem with typing English... unless you figure out how your OS supports multi-languies.

That pretty much sums it up for the state of the Scottish education system. A fucking fourth-grader in the US would be failed for writing as atrocious as that.

This is the Intarweb, not SMS. Extra letters don't cost.

If you can't be bothered to exert the incredibly small effort to actually write properly in your muvver tongue, I sure as hell can't be arsed to read it. It can't be that fucking hard to spell correctly and use capitalisation and punctuation. Not even for a Scot.

woof.

Doggie get a fucking grip o' yersel'. just cause someone doesnt speak like u, u wanna insult them and their country. u r a muppet! very often she is writing closer to english than she may normally speak. eh fur one dinnae gie eh flehing fuck whit ye think aboot us scots, an' we wull write ony way we want tae!! wink.gif

like u said if u dont like the way it is written dont read it. like we care if someone wants to be anal about spelling and capital feckin "i"s reads our posts! we dont! dont get so full of urself that we want the mighty doggie to give us a pass mark for our posts!

I don't see it's got anything to do with liking Scots or not and turining it into such is just childish and sad. It's about the fact that the language of this board is English. Not sms speak, not l33t, not doric dialect, not anything at all except English. It's not really up for negotiation or interpretation. What may be interpreted by different people in different ways is the level and quality of English which is acceptable. However, at the end of the day that's up to Editor Bob as it's his website, simple as that.

Kirsty, what's FTD 83? All I can see is some vague reference to a computer game or perhaps Motherwell or somesuch.

No you couldn't, you'd be guessing at how the words are spelt, because it's not a written language!
kiltedkirsty
FTD 83 means FUCK THE DEE 83- it a bit of football terminology that will only be understood but it was directed at scots geeza as he sent it to me in a previous post!

basically it means that we (dundee united) won the leauge at dens park on the 14th of May 1983- so we say FTD 83 !

So hen, what takes you to Munich?

And did you take over any bottle of Deuchars IPA, just to let these locals know what real beer tastes like wink.gif
kiltedkirsty
Like a Bavarian dictionary there is a Dundonian dictionary also, i will get one sent over then i will be making no errors there!
BadDoggie
I guess scots geeza also missed that part about "English-speaking". A language comprises vocabulary and grammar. The written form of a language includes a number of rules which make it possible for all participants in a conversation to understand each other. It's just not that difficult.

My remark about Scotland was in reference to previous comments about KK's education and not just wanton slagging off of the place. That I leave to the Scots themselves.

woof.

[/quoJust finished doing my Midwifery degree at home so working for a guest family, the women is pregnant and American, and by the way has no trouble understanding my accent!
No, no Deuchars in my suitcase but if you had told me before then i would have brought it no problem, what brings you to munich?
Johnny English
Weird thread this. But just to chip in my tuppence worth. I also find it quite a strain to read when people type in SMS speak - it forces you to stop and concentrate, or in my case just skip the posting altogether.

So I see it more as a basic politeness to everyone on the forum to write in vaguely normal English, just because it is easier to read. It's as annoying as typing ALL IN CAPITALS ALL THE TIME, or in some stramge pink colour.

By the way - how do you do small text these days?

check ur posts u did insult something i imagine uknow limited things about - scottish education. also this english speaking language rule u nag on about. rules evolve and change, check the new oxford dictionary see the spelling for words there. many words spelt as they are in text messages are ncluded. stop being ur usual moaning self and get ur pleasure from moaning at someone else. FTD and FTBD sideways with a rusty pole!
kiltedkirsty
Well i have given you what you wanted i have learned to type in semi readable english if you aint happy with that then its just tough !

My job and the mountain lifestyle you can have from living here, not to mention the other nice things in Munich wink.gif I do miss the homeland humour and banter though (chewin' the fat, etc...) but don't miss the rain...

Bavarian Dictionaries are meant as jokes, take a look at a couple, they never agree how to spell the words!

and ur point? she is talking about dundonian dictionaries, who cares if the bavarians are a joke. and who died and made u overseer of languages and dialects? just cause bavarian dictionaries disagree slightly on the best phonetic spelling for a word does not mean they are jokes

thats just bollocks said by middle class idiots who dont realise the really rich are like the poor - they dont give a monkeys how someone speaks as long as the get what needs to be done done. language is a way for people to communicate, if u dont understand us then maybe take itas a hint that we dont want u too.

DallyM, she specifically said:

kiltedkirsty: ad by the way i got 8 highers and 2 advanced higers if that mean anything to anyne im also working towards a midwifery degree so i canny be that dumbass

And when picked up on it said:

QUOTE
kiltedkirsty: that is too much like hard work lol - anyway us young uns of the world learn the sms speak and just have to use it everywhere lol it faster and easier - i did get an A in english honest

So it would appear that Kirsty is neither dyslexic nor has trouble forming words.

Creepy, once again I agree with all sides. She did bring it on by claiming to have an "A" in English, yet types worse than me, the one with the 7th grade English grammar according to BadDoggie and he is one of the experts.
