I don't give a fuck whether I know the person or not. Sure, perhaps I'm slightly more tolerant if I've met the person face to face, but only slightly. I will still say what I think as I am entitled to and as you are too.

From what she has said it appears that she is also fine with using a keyboard. She has mentioned being involved online previously. You are trying to find reasons and justification for it when it is clear, because she has said so herself, that she simply can't be arsed to write normal accepted English as she is used to the other method. I find this very hard to believe as it's simply conditioning and from a keyboard usage point of view some of that SMS shite is slower to type than normal words. It may save space and therefore cost on a mobile telephone but that is not an issue here.

As you say I could choose not to read that particular post. Well I can't decide whether it's annoying or not unless I look at the post and by then I'm annoyed. I could choose to ignore that particular poster but I don't because it can firstly throw off the thread of a discussion if a posters input is missing and secondly I have absolutely nothing against Kirsty so am open to what she has to say, if not how she says it.

I simply cannot agree with your argument, firstly because it is based on the premise that there is actually something wrong with the poster in question which in itself is insulting to her and secondly because in my opinion it is simply not acceptable usage of language. This board specifies a certain level of English usage. One must be relatively fluent and coherent. That is not the case with respect to l33t, SMS speak or whatever else it may be called. Perhaps it is generally acceptable on other boards but here we speak English and I for one expect others to make an effort to do so also. Of course I have no authority to enforce this but what I do have is the right to complain, bitch and moan about it when I wish to. If you don't like my posts then, to use your own words, you could just not read them.

Oh and you could do with finding the apostrophe yourself occasionally and popping a little space between the odd full-stop and start of a new sentence. And use of the quote function, ach nevermind. Cheers.

Do you see how it can go around and around? It's a chat forum, also known as a discussion forum. If you post something then it's quite likely to commented on. That includes style and form of a post, not just content. Sorry but that's the way it is. Until the management step in and change the rules there's very little that you or I can do about it. Besides, I would never have bothered with your little foible if you hadn't jumped in both feet first with your comments. You comment, I comment, and around it goes.


Therein lies the nub to exactly what I have been trying to say. You see, it is not clearly understandable. It has a similar effect to some of the posts written by non-native speakers. Sometimes you really have to pause for thought to figure out what they're trying to say. That is usually not the case when one writes in normal English. Of course it doesn't have to be perfect, of course there will be mistakes, we all make them.

Also you keep telling me to look at my own faults before criticising others. Why? I know I have plenty of faults and if people wish to pick me up on them, well so be it. I don't have a problem with that. It might even serve to make me a better person.

I know what you're trying to do and it's admirable. I also like to defend others I feel are being unnecessarily persecuted especially for trivial things like their spelling. But Keydeck does have a right to criticise and kiltedkirsty I'm sure is mature enough to be able to take the criticism. This forum would really be boring if there weren't any disagreement. I love the criticism, giving as well as receiving. All's fair in love and war mate!
