Boredom has set in with the random kangaroo or ostrich...all the various Bavarian food is way too normal, does anyone know of some restaurants that have something we maybe haven't tried?

I heard a rumor there was a place that served guinea pigs...but have yet to find an address...
Topsy
you can have a horse pizza at the Nero Pizza place near Isartor - does that count?
i gave it a whirl - got a few mucky looks for it, mind - and i thought it was tasty
NOFXmike
Sounds good to me, THANKS, anyone else? we're open for about anything, obviously (well, we're more hesitant if it's still moving...) cool.gif
Kza
Where did you get kangaroo and ostrich? Love ostrich, only had it a couple of times though.
Topsy
you can get ostrich at Aldi, Kza - "Strauss" in German
course, you can get posh ostrich at the Viktualienmarkt as well
Sin
Backed baby hedgehog. Luverly.

We go huntin' them on horses with packs of wild cats.
bluedave
you can get emu, kangaroo and crocodile at outland in Haidhausen
TexasTornado
From time to time Kilian's will offer Ostrich steaks on their specials menu.
NOFXmike
Ostrich you can get @ Ned Kelly's any time...

Though I've had it many times in many different places...good stuff

Bluedave: thanks, will have to check out the croc for sure...emu as well, probably

I remember passing an Aussie restaurant in Munich one time that had kangaroo on the menu. I can't for the life of me remember where it is or what its name is, though. Sorry, I know that doesn't help too much, but at least it narrows it down.

It's not in Munich (nor Germany for that matter) but I had jellyfish, duck tongue, and ants last week.

But if you look at a genuine Chinese restaurant in Munich you might find some of the above, or similar weirdness. There is a good one near Michaelibad U-bahn, I believe it's Jade something. Pretty authentic.
kitty-kat
I've been to Jade several times as its just down the street from us, but I've never noticed any particularly weird animals on the menu! They do have GREAT food though, the place is always full of Chinese people- which is a good indicator of authenticity. Our chinese friends actually recommended it to us.
eurovol
This is the season for Road-kill Grill you know. tongue.gif
NOFXmike
eurovol: My step-dad hit a deer with his truck driving to MN to go deer hunting a couple days ago, lol

...just a thought.

oh, and interplanetjanet: kangaroo you can get @ Ned Kelly's as well.
Friday
anywhere you can eat snakemeat?
interplanetjanet
Hm, perhaps that's where I saw it, but my memory tells me that it was at a restaurant in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
bluedave
ipj it was outland in weissenburgerplatz, also forgot to mention since i was there tonight that they have shark too
interplanetjanet
That just might be it, because I have a vague recollection of shark being on the menu, too.

Jellyfish is yummy but duck tongue & ants. EEUW! What kind of things Chinese eat?!

We were forced to eat snake - python - when we were kids. They all taste like chicken! Actually, just plain bitter because of the Chinese medicine. The next day, the venom showed up (as dark spots) so that was the last snake we ate.

Probably the weird foods are not on the menu. But your chinese friends could ask what they have. smile.gif

No snake venom please...

The venom? A poisonous python?
NOFXmike
yeah, pythons don't have venom...

also, did you eat the head? lol

Kangaroo is also available at the Bürger's in Moosach (and I would expect at their other locations as well). They have kangaroo steak (served on roast potatoes with a fried egg on top) and a kangaroo burger. It's usually pretty good, though the meat can be a bit tough sometimes. If you're interested in trying it, today (or another Sunday) is the day because all their main dishes are €6.50 after 14:00 on Sundays. smile.gif (The regular price of the kangaroo steak is something like €11.50).

Horse pizza? Good grief. There's a butcher in the Viktualienmarkt that does horse sausages (might be best not to ask which bit of the animal it is), and probably other cuts, too. But pizza? blink.gif
OhFFS
I've got a mate in Eng-er-land that swears by "game" pie, if that's any use? He's only got an air rifle though, so "game" tends to mean things like squirrel and so on. Damn weirdo.
Carm
The Viktualienmarket does have a Horse stall (for meat) and a few wild game meat stalls, so, you could try to do your own. I also know that Gobi BBQ has Osterich, you pick your meat out and they cook it up for you.
NOFXmike
looks like we're trying the Outland tonight, going for shark.

thanks again for that one, will probably go back for the croc etc.

As for the Horse pizza, sounds good to me, reminds me of when I was staying in Spain for a summer and the host family had a hell of a time finding meat with out at least a little horse in it, lol
Saan
I just remembered that Cam Ly (a Vietnamese restaurant) does goat meat as well as the more common eel, quail and venison.

You might also find some new thing to try at a sushi restaurant (such as uni, sea urchin roe). Sadly I don't know of any sushi restaurants that have uni or even anything vaguely unusual (and uni is anything but unusual for a sushi restaurant). I'm about to post on the thread about sushi restaurants asking where to get uni in Munich. smile.gif
eurovol
Shark isn't really all that exotic.
greg
The Aussie Shop on Dachaustr. has an advertisement on the kasse which says they can get you kangeroo, emu, or crocodile steaks that you can cook at home. Prices didn't look that bad either.

ohmy.gif My world just collapsed! If python don't have venom, I've no idea what caused the dark spots on our bodies which showed up for days after eating the python soup. Maybe the python had a strange diet of mice then! laugh.gif
NOFXmike
the shark was good

and eurovol, if shark isn't that exotic, then come up with something more exotic yerself? I realize Tennesse has so many sharks and all, but... tongue.gif

speaking of shark, any idea what KIND of shark it is @ the outland?
bluedave
not sure mike, i'll ask Rick, the landlord, next time i'm in.

Pity we didn't know who you were, was a few tt'ers in there yesterday, would have been nice to say hello
NOFXmike
I'm usually pretty easy to spot, as if I'm off work, (and 50% of the time even when I am working) I nearly always wear my NOFX hat (as in my profile).

Cool...we liked the place, VERY easy to get to and find, would probably recommend it to others. ...kinda makes me want to find a place to live around there, hmmm (well, aside from the fact that while I waited for 2 min for my gf, cops asked me for my ID, etc. ...I really like how that'd be illegal where I'm from, not that it was much of a hassle, they were quite nice, it's just...well...)
