dont worry carito, even if you dont get a snowy brithday present, i pretty much guarantee that it will be in a while you maybe like the kid who has had just about enough of the birthday toy. smile.gif
Happy Birthday though, have a good one! biggrin.gif
caliber
No more betting on when will be the first snow fall???
sea-king
Still waiting... New dressing, much whiter than yesterday. blink.gif
Yeti
Something between snowflakes and hail is trying to fall in Neuperlach right now but it's not surviving ground contact.
sea-king
I live there, I can`t see anything. Are you in the same Neu-Perlach as me? blink.gif
Tim
was snowing at Sendlinger Tor 30 minutes ago
Yeti
You might want to go outside sea-king.

I walked from the Neuperlach Süd U-Bahn station to up to near the Aldi about 20 minutes ago and managed to get a few hailstones/wannabe snowflakes on my jumper. Nothing happening now.

Whereabouts do you live anyhow, roughly ?
sea-king
Roughly barely descibes where I live, near the U-Bahn NP Central over the bridge...and now it`s getting sunny.Outside ...me... Ha Ha. blink.gif
Yeti
Well I'm two stops away so it's a completely different weather system.

It just snowed here !
sea-king
Maybe I`m in the eye of the storm? It really bright outside now. blink.gif
caliber
It is not snowing here... sad.gif
Hutcho
Snowing ever so slightly and occasionally here in Freimann now. Nothing worth talking about though
Yeti
Well there was a sprinkling of white stuff floating past my window. Thought it might be my dandruff but I cleaned my glasses and it was still going. Only lasted about 30 seconds though.
Mr.Mosh
It just snowed a tiny tiny bit out by hauptbahnhof, just a few little flakes before the sun came back out
sea-king
It`s getting brighter here, but I can see a shit load of dark clouds not too far away. blink.gif
grazzenger
had some odd snow/hail/sleet out in erding about 20 mins ago. strange stuff - too light to be hail, not wet enough to be sleet and too hard to be snow.
Tom17
oooh signs of snow occuring? smile.gif Not seen anything yet here in Riem but will kepp my eyes peeled.
Yeti
Grazzeneger just described perfectly what was trying to fall here.
brokenm
It's snowing now by the hbf...only a bit.
caliber
So the Winter is started right? ph34r.gif ???All the betting people were saying thursday 6:00 pm..but now its only 2:00pm..and it started snowing...
benpanter
There are some miniscule flakes of something floating past my window, but I'm not sure I'd call it snow yet...
eurovol
Flurries happening here in Neuherberg.
jeremy
Last night we had sleat on our bathroom Velux and I can tell you that the Alps are looking whitish today from Holzkirchen
grazzenger
for reliable 3 day forecasts go to www.snow-forcast.com (or 6 day if you sign up). it's primarily for the ski areas of the world but they have a regional map of germany and other 'non-ski' areas. i've always found it incredibly reliable for the alps and pretty good for germany. off there now to see what they say...
persik
just got back from marienplatz...i got a few pathetic teeny things on my coat. wouldn't even qualify them as flakes dry.gif
it was pretty strange, only lasted about 2 minutes. i was very confused at the white stuff falling all over at first since i keep forgetting it actually snows here, and aside from catching the tail-end of last winter (although quite the tail-end it was), i haven't seen snow in about 10 years.
sea-king
Well it`s finally arrived very small flakes and hard to see but snow. Must strap my skis on to go to the shops now until April. blink.gif
planetmoni
still waiting for snow in giesing but i think i can smell it.
sea-king
No that was me I had fried onions last night. Sorry. blink.gif
Darkknight
For the record, it's not considered "Real Snow" until it's coming down in full force. This 1-2 flake, semi frozen rain shite don't cut it.. biggrin.gif
Eleanor Rigby
Snow in Unterhaching.

EDIT: has now stopped

EDIT: something resembling snow has started again
grazzenger
i'm with darkknight on this. we need a layer of snow on the ground for it to be considered 'snow'. enough to scrape together a gravel laden snowball and 'have someone's eye out' as i remember being constantly reminded at school.
georgiagirl
There appear to be teensy-weensy little flakes falling outside my window in Neuhausen. Definitely not enough to stick or coat anything.
robbieinmunich
Here in Grünwald there are flakies about...
Darkknight

Please see the above.. What you are seeing is not snow.. biggrin.gif
Please see the above definition from grazzenger's post...

And it has to be "Snowing" in a large area (50 sq km's or so)
Having it only "Snow" in a 1 block radius also doesn't count...

The Germans don't know what winter really is... Compaired to say
somebody from the northern US states and Canada.. Germany get a few cm's
of snow a year, while the others get several meters... Why can't it just for one
year drop several meters of snow in Germany biggrin.gif
georgiagirl
Update: just went outside to check out the situation. Can't honestly call this stuff "snow," even by Southern Yank standards. Jokingly suggested to my German neighbor that we build a snowman. Was met with impassive and unamused stare.

Edit: yeah, yeah DK, I know rolleyes.gif
winglette
Also tiny flakes observed out my office window in Oberpfaffenhofen. (Nothing significant yet, I just wanted to see if I could properly spell Oberpfaffenhofen. Look! I did it twice! tongue.gif )

So what do you call the stuff that falls from the sky looking exactly like snow if it doesn't fit your criteria?
Yeti
Looks like DK is a quantity rather than quality man.
grazzenger
ah timmeh, that's rubbish stuff, we're after real 'snow'. you can't get in the spirit of winter or skiing or chrimbly or whatever with a few dandruff sized flakes floating past for 30 seconds. my money's still on waking tomorrow with enough snow on the ground to consider calling it snow, if you know what i mean.
Yeti
Nobody mentioned getting into the spirit of anything. It's the first snows. Them was snows.

I demands a split into a new topic on "How much snow do you need before you feel all rugged and alaskan" or something.
Marshbot
Well, grazzenger & DK... I know I won't be able to ski down the wheelchair ramp this afternoon or anything.. but I've been sitting here with my nose pressed to the window just waiting for one of these elusive not-really-snow flakes to pass by so I can start crowing about winter having arrived good and proper.
All I've gotten so far is a cold nose. I think the not-snow has been wasted on you. Send it my way! I will love and cherish it.
carpediem
Here is an "expert" definition of when you can call it snow (being swedish, I think i semiqualify for this position laugh.gif
BIG snowflurries falling down in a dingly fashion, so thick you can hardly see your neighbours house opposite the street, 5 cm covering the ground within 10 minutes of such snowfall - yes, now that is what I´d call winter and SNOW!

Can´t wait, I love winter and snow - finally I can make snowball-igloos and such again! When the snow comes, I become a child again tongue.gif

BIG snowflurries falling down in a dingly fashion

Phrase of the week, I love it! smile.gif
Tim
I am with Timmeh on this one. And being a Canadian, having spent my childhood shovelling and my adulthood plowing the stuff, having spent my whole life sliding and skiing on it, and being one of the few on TT to know that an Eskimo is actually a politically incorrect word (that I also happen to know the meaning of) for Inuit (the people that have a bazillion words for the white stuff), let me say that snow, in whatever form it arrives is 1. welcome and 2. snow.
grazzenger
can't wait to see snow falling in a 'dingly fashion'. i think carpediem's getting all excited about winter already!
carpediem
@Allershausen - thanks, I do have a way with words laugh.gif
carpediem
OK - I see you guys haven´t experienced snowflakes in a dingly fashion yet - AS soon as it arrives, I´ll take a photo of it for you and will post it here!
NOFXmike
I was working outside at the hbf @ 2pm today, no snow...I think you're seeing things

Now I just got back home to Seefeld, no snow here either...
Jeeves
Wouldn't a dingly fashion require a movie rather than a still photo?
Tim
when it's finished, does it look like this?
