Apres ski -- best places near Munich?

"relaxation" after a hard day skiing

Mind's Eye
So a buddy and I are planning on going skiing on Thursday but don't have 100% firm plans on where we'll be heading. One of the ideas is to partake in apres ski if there is any. Okay, this will be on a weekday and all, but since neither of us are familiar with the skiing scene around here I'm curious to know if there are any places around Munich that are particularly good for the apres ski scene.

Neither one of us has a car so we'll be going by bahn & hauling stuff... any nuggets of wisdom?

(Anybody interested in tagging along?) cool.gif

I'd like to ask what is probably a very ignorant question. What's the difference between going skiing somewhere and partaking of some apres ski and going skiing somewhere and then going to a bar afterwards. Seriously, this is a genuine question. Is there something different about "Apres Ski" than just a bar with people & drinks? Enquiring minds want to know.

hmm . . well - my interpretation of "Apres Ski" is where people gather at the bottom of
the main gondola or whatever, and get the bevvies in, and do
some dancing to embarrassing dodgey music - but it's ok, as most people are
dressed in their 80's wham one piece ski outfit ! (from about 3-4pm until about
7pm) - So - to answer keydeck - I suppose it's drinking and dancing whilst in
sweaty ski gear that makes the difference!

Then - back to the hotel, shower, get changed, and meet somewhere for food
at about 8-ish. Get a feed in, then off to some 'disco bar' type place, where more
stylish dancing can be engaged in - and where you try to put a face to the
ski suits you were with earlier at the apres ski bar.

I would be FAIRLY certain that there is zero apres ski scene here in Munich.
Only at the resorts themselves. I'm sure you could just pop into
some Irish bar on the way home, and get thrashed for a fairly similar experience.

Personally - I can really only do this if I'm not intending on going out in the snow
the next day... I get bad hangovers. sad.gif

Try the Hocheck Skigebiet on a night when the flood lights are on. Don't ski (yet) but we were there a few weeks back renting bobs and there was something going on.

Keydeck, I'm gonna smoke myself out here and admit that I have only the vaguest idea of what it is myself -- I'm asking on behalf of the buddy who absolutely wants to do it. rolleyes.gif

My suspiscion of it being more a resort phenomenon is somwhat strengthened by what roro said. I've been to Brauneck and Garmisch and didn't notice much opportunity for drinking there, but then again I wasn't looking for it and it was all some time ago..

Roro and MM, thanks for the insights so far cool.gif -- kep 'em comin'!
Mind's Eye
Well I'm just going to follow up on this since I made it to Hauseck in Garmisch and can report on it. For what it's worth: Basically there is a hut an two tents at the bottom of the slopes -- not much, and while definitely visited on a weekday, not lively or long-lived. We closed the last tent at 6:00, which made it past the last shuttle into town, but fortunately Garmsich is easily traversable by foot -- even with heavy gear. biggrin.gif

Apres ski itself is basically as roro described it. I think the only other point is that German-language singalong DJ Ötzi-type music with a beat and very simple texts is de riguer; happy music to keep the people lively.
