I never knew there was an English translation for the word "Sperrengeschoss". That is... until now when reading CV / visa / passport photos from gooner_gal.
So who else knew that Sperrengeschoss = Mezzanine? Not many judging by the number of times the word has been used on TT - just three times ever (in the context of U-Bahn stations that is).
I knew of the Massive Attack album of the same name, but never knew it had a meaning.
Anyway, nice word, hey? Gonna use that one frequently from now on I think.
See you in the Münchner Freiheit mezzanine!
Wikipedia - Mezzanine
QUOTE
A mezzanine is an intermediate floor between main floors of a building; it is often low-ceilinged, and often projects in the form of a balcony. Mezzanine is synonomous with entresol. The term is also used for the lowest balcony in a theater, or for the first few rows of seats in that balcony.
In Palladian architecture the mezzanine is a low upper floor, usually for servants and/or storage.
In technology, a mezzanine can refer to a thin sheet of plastic insulating different parts of circuitry from each other in cramped environments, such as laptop interiors.
