Sneak preview movie at Cinema München

English-language films, every Friday at 11:15pm

Something to do on Friday night: Cinema Muenchen for the sneak preview.

It costs €5.50 each and you see a film that sometimes isn't released for months afterwards. Catch is that you don't know what you're going to see until the movie actually starts. So, whilst I've seen some good movies there (I've previously seen Intorerable Cruelty and Pirates of the Caribbean), you can be unlucky and get something uninteresting. Overall though, I've seen a lot more good films than bad films.

Check out the list of what has been shown before:
Cinema Muenchen - Previous Sneaks

It's pretty popular, so there's a need to get in early.

...and I'll pick them up in time.

So tonight I had hoped for either Wall:E or Mamma Mia.

Seeing as Mammi Mia is showing before next weeks sneak preview, I thought I'd get the former. I was wrong and I was happy to be, boy did I need a film to lift my spirits. In case anyone didn't follow that last sentence, the film was indeed Mamma Mia and what a bloody brilliant musical it is. The story revolves around a young bride to be who wants to meet the father she never knew by inviting him to her wedding...only trouble is that there are three of them! (Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and another fellow who is not so glamorous). Meryl Streep plays her mother who kept the secret all the time in her diary, which is conviently discovered by her daughter. Meryl Streep is supported by Julie Walters and someone else who I recognise but cannot remember...off to google in a momnet!!

Anyways, if you like musicals, go see this. If you like ABBA, go see this. If you just like a good uplifting movie, then go see this.

Finally, if you are none of the above and are one of the few that left before the movie had even really had a chance to begin. Go rethink your life, possibly kill yourself. If I can sit through over an hour of shit that is 'Happy Go Lucky' then you can certainly manage Mamma Mia. Twats!

This film will be showing before next weeks sneak preview and I for one will be seeing this again and the sneak. Anyone wants to do a double bill, let me know.

Noooo! I really want to see Mamma Mia! I've been waiting for it all Summer.

Glad you got a good movie this time.

Sorry, but there is just something very wrong about seeing Meryl Streep singing Abba.

I am trying to work out a way of seeing that next week...even if I have to make my kids sit through it...Thanks for the glowing review 3 lions.

Mate, there is also something very wrong about Pierce Brosnan bursting in to song. But the film nails it brilliantly.

btw - Stay for the end credits. Hilarious!

Wow 3Lions...I am very sorry I didn't attend the Sneak last night!!! I am dying to see Mamma Mia as I saw the musical on Broadway and it was brilliant!!! The music is really uplifting and I agree that it definintely puts you into a good mood! I have a GNO next Friday night with friends to see the 8:40pm showing of Mamma Mia. I might just have to stick around and do a double---Mamma Mia and the Sneak!!! Can't wait!!!

It's Christine Baranski - she's been in tons of things but I personally loved her as Cybill Shepherd's sidekick Maryann in the show "Cybill".
You probably know her from her role in "Chicago" though.

Just looked at her movie list, it was How the Grinch stole Christmas I remember her from.

Sorry Guys, I have to drop out for this week. I cant even make a 3rd helping of Mamma Mia! sad.gif

I have a sneaky feeling the film will be Wall:E or X-Files.
ExTexinMunich
Looks like I have to back out of the Sneak. I have an early morning and a full day on Saturday and even possibly an early morning on Sunday...need a bit of rest and an earlier night!
3 Lions
Just as I sign back up, everyone drops out. sad.gif

Cut off for the reservation page is 3pm, but I'll be checking this thread up till 5pm then off getting ticket(s).

I reckon the film tonight could either be Wall:E or X-Files.

Dead wrong Lions, dead wrong. The film was neither Wall:E or the X-Files, which is actually a good thing cos that means I'm seeing the X-Files on Thursday, only dilemma I have is deciding to watch it before or after Mamma Mia? dry.gif

Back to tonights sneak and people, you missed the first big summer blockbuster...drum roll...

THE DARK KNIGHT

I mentioned the possibility to Crouchjay who I bumped in to and we both agreed that it was a long shot as its only just had it's UK premiere.

As we all know the major villain of this film is the Joker played by the late Heath Ledger, now there is a lot of talk about him being given a posthumous oscar for his performance in the film. Personally I disagree, his Joker is excellent and believable as a psycho, he deserves all the praise he is getting in the press for this role, but an Oscar? No. Jack Nicholsons Joker was brilliant, Heath Ledger was scarily brilliant, I'd say if you were to meet the two you'd laugh at Nicholson, but Ledger would make you piss your pants and I dont mean with laughter. It's sad that Heath Ledger is gone from the acting world, but I cant help but wonder who they will get to play the Joker the next time Hollywood decides to use the character as whoever does it, will bring another level of personality to what is quite probably the No.1 comic book bad guy of all time.

This is a dark film, the Joker is not funny(Not in a Nicholson way)...well he actualy gets funnier towards the end of the film. Harvey 'Two-Face' Dent also makes his debut. Whilst Batman Begins left us with a teaser for the Dark Knight by showing us the Joker card at the end of the movie, there is no such teaser here. Although I felt the ending reminds me of the graphic novel 'Year One', which again the ending from Batman Begins is also from the same book.

On the film, I cant decide if I like it or not yet? It is good, but I am a comic book nerd and there is one snippet that I just dont agree with e.g. The origin of the Joker, in fact thats about my only gripe. For me the film fails to cement the bond that Batman and the Joker share. There is a reason why the Joker is obsessed with Batman. Towards the end of the movie the Joker says something to Batman that implies they'll never be finished, but it just doesn't come across for me.

I will have to watch this 1 or 2 more times in order to take every detail in. Sadly we all now have to wait till the 19th August when it is finally released here in doucheland.

What did I tell you about the sneak and the times I don't go? I figure this one just falls right within that rule.

In any case, I'm glad you got a good film. smile.gif
Element2082
Damnit. I knew that there was a big possibility it would be the Dark Knight.
So sad I missed this movie!
