Cross-country rides - where, when, & how

Hey, I just unpacked my bike, and I want to get as much mountain biking in as possible before it gets too cold, and then I want to bike in the snow. Unfortunately, I am uneducated as to where to go, and clueless as to what type of riding there is in the area. If anyone is going on rides in the München area (anywhere you can take the MVV or bike to), please message me, especially if the trails are somewhat technical and involve lots of up and down.
Also, if anyone wants to go south to the Garmisch area for weekends, I would be up for that.

One last thing. I have heard something about a mountain biking group called M97. Does anyone know what type of rides they do and if they meet regularly?

Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks!
Bannockburn
M97: Mmmm, I imagine it's okay if you don't mind paying for guided tours.

Some of the lads on the Muenchen mtb-news are worth speaking to, keep your eyes on the "trail tour am sonntag" dicussion & send a message to the member called "flo_bass".

Other than that Lurch and I can sort you out, plus Kit at the Garmisch end...

Later,
Bannockburn.
lurch
This applies to all of course!

Meeting up on Saturday around 1ish, at the wooden footbridge south of the zoo, that is the bridge up-stream of the main entrance of the zoo.

Should be a group of mixed abilities , but singletrack is the goal. Should be fairly easy-going, the stupid stuff is available for those who want to but it's mostly flowing singletrack 'til we hit schäftlarn..(sic) (i never remember how to spell that place much less pronounce it!)

Beer at mühltal and then back, or an extended run towards Wolfrathausen, if anyone is feelin' frisky!

buzz me if you need to know more

Ok, I'm I probably won't go, becuase I have spots left on my Eurailpass, so I think I'm going to head to the Alps for the weekend. Any other weekend I'm up for it though.
Speaking of which, anyone acquainted with the good mountain biking spots in the Tirol/Innsbruck area?
wunnspeed
I'm just getting initiated in to German (er, Italian) singletrack myself. Thanks boys! Lots of fun. Ever tried downhill on a rigid singlespeed? It's a hoot.

Kera and I are planning to be out there... with bells on. She's really itching to get on her mountain bike.
Bannockburn
ninjavore,

I'm sure there's a load of stuff to ride in the Tirol/Innsbruck area but I'm not too well acquainted with it (yet). If you're new to the area then you actually don't need to go that far on the train to get quality biking. From Tegernsee bahnhof you have access to many of the fine trails in the Tegernsee-Schliersee-Spitzingsee-Lengries area and to get an idea where to point your wheels then read the Moser Tegernsee guide.

Have fun,
Bannockburn.

I hope to be there tomorrow.

I also have tentative plans on Sunday (Ninjavore, I sent you a mail) to do a ride from Garmisch down to the Karwendelhaus or something. A friend of mine knows the route and will be leading. I'll put more info up tomorrow if anyone cares to join.

Hey, I ended up just going to Garmisch for the day, and biking around. The uphill was quite boring, but the views were great, and downhill, any path can get hairy when you go fast enough. Anyway, I'll be able to go tomorrow now, so I'll give you a call when I get lost trying to find the meeting spot.
lurch
No problem! Looks like there going to be quite a group

A longer run in the mountains probably will be planned for tomorrow. We can talk today.
Bannockburn
The Karwendel hit the sweet spot today in terms of dream like riding contions

How was the Isar ride?
Crotaline
In a word , bannock... it sucked. sleep.gif Maybe Im saying that because after we ate and had beers, I was at the back, and was close to puking. Maybe because i was on my singlespeed hardtail thats not built for long rides. (Dirt jumping, yes. city-bombing, yes again.)

I still didnt quit, and got home after dark. I got to Lurch's place and it was cold and foggy.
I got home and it was even colder and foggier.

all-in-all a typical ride with Lurch. except nothing got broken
wunnspeed
It was fast to start, loooong, there was some crashing; ask Klaus and some grumbling.

By the time that I got home it was dark and foggy as well. Poor boy Crotaline... should have been renamed Dry-Heavealine for Saturday.

Had a great time though.

Good times! I enjoyed having a larger group and for me, the trails weren't too technical (and when they were I just got off and walked).

Sunday I drove over near the Karwendel for a few hours of fun.

Maybe we can do it again this weekend?
ninjavore
Hey everyone! Saturday was fun, and on sunday Lurch and I went out to Tegernsee, ground up a mountain, and bounced down. Quite fun, but it was either all fireroad, or all super-technical and slow downhill. Anyway, I have all day free tomorrow to ride because of the Feiertag. If anyone else wants to take a train to the mountains, post a message, send an email, etc. Otherwise I'll just go on the Isar. I can post a meeting time once I know what I'm doing, but be warned, I don't know the trail system or anything.
Bannockburn
So Bavarian riders...

Anybody up for a MTB ride somewhere on Sunday morning, either Tegernsee (Hirschberg & Wallberg) or Isar Trails?
ninjavore
Definitely, either one of those is ok, but I'll have to check with the trains again about Tegernsee if I can't get a ride.
jeremy
HBolzkirchen has fab access to the countryside. From here a ride up Tauben berg is recommended. Also forest trails to Dietramszell etc,

Bugger I have a Kind at my knees...
Bannockburn
We're going to meet at the bridge beside the zoo at 10:30am if anybody cares to join us:-)
