Anyone have any strong feelings about the best Indian in Munich...one that won't require organ donation to cover the bill ?

Cheers !
Editor Bob
The latest and greatest is supposed to be Pur Pur in Isarvorstadt. It only opened a few months ago and is being favourably reviewed *everywhere*. I haven't been yet myself though and would be interested to hear from anyone who has. The website is at: www.pur-pur-bar.de

My current favourite is:

Sitar
Robert-Koch-Str 4
80538 München

+49 (0) 89 2111 2361

Nearst U-Bahn: U4/U5 Lehel

They do a really good Chicken Jalfrezi.

PS, If you want "real" Onion Bhajis (rather than the onion rings that most Indian restaurants do here), try this place:

Satluj
Wörthstr 9
81667 München

+49 (0) 89 4800 2230

Nearest S-Bahn: Rosenheimer Platz / Ostbahnhof

Anyone eaten here ?

I've eaten in both the restaurants I mentioned. Never heard of the one Bob mentioned.

the title of my last reply was not quite as clear as i thought it would be..

i was aksing if anyone had heard of or eaten at Jeetas in Seitzstraße (Lehel)

I have eaten in Radha on Elvirastr. in Neuhausen and can vouch for its tastiness. The only other one I ate in was in Schwabing and the food was far, far better in Radha (but still not that bad in Schwabing).

I can vouch for the Sitar as well - I go there about once a week, and the food is always really good. It's even pretty hot - not as hot as the UK, but not far off. I tend to eat the vindaloo, which is about the same as your average madras in the UK.

had a great curry at the Maharani,

They've got 3 in munich and I tried the one on Rottmannstr, just up from Lowenbrau

Nicely impressed smile.gif

I been to Maharani by LBrau too - the curries are really nice, the only downside is that the menu is limited and they wont make anything that isnt on there.

They also have kingfisher beer which is a real "Stuck Heimat" for me. Weißbeer doesnt quite fit the bill.

Mmm...I've been to the "Maharani" on Rottmanstr. and they quite gladly made a variation of a dish not on the menu. I'm still working my way through all the Indian restaurants in Munich (there are around 30 at the last count) but this one has to be my favourite.

Maybe there was a curry powder drought in Munich the weekend I asked, because he said the same thing to another group that came in and sat on the table next to us.

Toytown goes to Sitar for a Friday night curry...
(service and food excellent, as always!)

Did everyone buy their sunglasses in the same shop?

The shades are standard TT issue. Do you mean that you haven't received yours yet? What about your Secret Decoder Ring that helps you work out what is really being said on this message board?

There is something dreadfully wrong with these pictures: No Aquatic Meringue!

Have you disposed of his body by eating him? Is he tied up under the table while you fed him Lamb Korma (make a bleedin change). No wonder you're all wearing shades to hide your identities! Ha! But I see through the scam! Even the waiter is in on the plot...

Also: Why wasn't I there? Ah yes. Because I wasn't in M. Ahhh.

Isn't the double chin on +1 evidence enough?

(I know daddy, I won't use the quote feature again, I promise)

Have to say my fav is Samrat on Blumenstrasse. Excellent chicken madras and onion bahjis are good too.

Radha in elvirastrasse is good too, and their onion bahjis are huge and excellent. Havent found a main dish I like there though but as is just round the corner I tend to go there more than samrat. Oh, and you get given free popadoms in radha like in the UK. dont get that at samrat.

Don't worry, I wasn't turned into a vindaloo. I was in fact back in the UK, where I (quite obviously) went to one of my favourite Indian restaurant - the Akash, in Portsmouth. I've not been there since my student days, and had almost forgotten how good it is! Plain pappadums... Mango chutney... Baltis... Mmm...

weird, you meet so many brits in the curry houses in munich, you'd think that one of them would cotton on and think "why don't they make the curries like in the UK?" . Well, if you could probably kill all the rest of the restaurants off by opening up a UK-style curry house, as that's what most of the customers want. Thick red tikka masala, balti, vindaloo that's hot, Phal (!). Good quality Peshwari Naan (not made with glace cherries!), tasty wet vegetable curry, etc etc.

Still, lets not forget that there are also bad curry houses in the UK...

Try the Maharajah in the Blutenburg Strasse near Rotkreuzplatz
Little bit ou t of the way but the food is excellent.
No trouble is too much for Multani who runs it, and just going there you can meet a lot of English speaking people

Yeah buts theres so many good n bad, its always easy to know lots of good curry houses in the UK.

Here its just a very limited number of good curry houses, and lots of bland ones.

I ate in one just on Thiersch str, just off Isartor. Really nice great flavour curry, but let down miserably in the nan bread and the poppadom selection.
