This was Salamander the shoe shop on
Kaufingerstrasse. It is currently under demolition by the same company who worked on the Sporthaus Schuster site.
Please take care as you walk past it.

I saw that yesterday and thought to myself "what the fuck are they thinking??".
It looks so dodgy, a couple of policemen were looking at the building shaking their heads too.

For any readers who don't know the background to this, I should point out that there were three accidents involving falling masonry at the Sport Schuster site earlier this year. One of the accidents involved TT's very own Pootle (posting above) who subsequently spent a couple of weeks in
intensive care with head injuries - now pretty much fully recovered, thankfully.
Unbelievable that the fence pictured above is so low. The fence currently surrounding the Sport Schuster site was previously the same height. With each subsequent accident the height was raised. It is now six or seven stories high - i.e. roof level.

Apart from the falling masonary, does anyone know if that demolition at Sport Schuster is going to plan? The car park at the back is really suffering from lack of space due to supporting brickwork underground, it makes me think there was an error and the whole place is collapsing. However, I know nothing about buildings, demolition or the like. All I know is - there is nowhere to park!

Seriously has anyone got onto the health and safety people and (justifiably) grassed these cowboys up over the low fence?
I just called the Baubehörde, they're not responsible for it. I just called the City of München, they're already closed for the weekend and the answering machine doesn't take messages (233000). Lawyer Hubby says it's the city who'd be responsible. I'm going to email the city and the SZ, TZ, AZ, Merkur, and ask if this is really true. Actually I have a friend who's a photographer at the Merkur, maybe he can go take a picture too.

Thanks to Herr Plank and to Gen.
It'll be interesing to see what happens.
Although the office is only open Mondy-Friday daytimes, I wonder if they have 24 hour emergency inspectors...Well we have a photo of how the fence was in case they suddenly raise it.

ummmmm oh my life! i didnt know sport schuster had been injuring other people too! Just found this thread... am a bit of a newbie to this site!
i was in there on Oktober 1st trying to buy some trainers... and a whole shoe rack i was standing by fell off the wall on to my head! Some german ladies were very nice to me after though!
It just led to ineresting dr visits and faffing about with insurance etc... they have to pay for my physio etc (sprained neck muscles!)
The insurance people have also renamed me "Herr Stobhan" instead of Frau "Siobhan " for some inexplicable reason. i was a bit amused
Obv is nothing though compared to poor guy with the rock...
Nobody go near that shop! Does anyone want my compensation voucher? heh.

The
Süddeutsche Zeitung ran a story about the construction sites in the pedestian zone today with a picture of what Pootle's accident site looks like now. He is mentioned in the article as well (as the guy who got his skull fractured). The file of the picture is too large for an attachment; basically, the whole construction site is encased in heavy plastic sheets which are held in place by horizontal beams attached to the buildings across the way.

They have permission to do that and they only work at nights from 22:00 till 7:00 am in the morning. Even at the week end. Yes it's far too loud and no, there is nothing we can do. The health and saftey authority is informed but can't do anything about it. When they work they close the whole area and we can't come to our house anymore but have to wait at the gate to have some worker accompanying us. There is no way to get home from
Kaufingerstrasse, so we actually have to walk around the block. We are still in negotiations about rent deduction as it is not possible to sleep there right now. I can see the crane from my bed (Literally 10 m away, quite scary). The whole house is shaking. We can't open the windows as the dust is so bad and I'm sure not healthy at all. We started to sleep in the living room which is on the other side of the house, u still can hear the noise but it's kinda bearable.
It will still take them another 2 weeks, maybe more to demolish the house left alone to build the new one afterwards.
They have to work at night as there were injuries. When I talk to the authorities they told me everything about poor poots (without mentioning names) As it is too busy during the day, they will buíld the whole construction during nights.

Really? When its cold, slippery and dark? Seems a bit counter productive to me, in the sense that its merely shifting the danger from the general public to the workers. I guess theres probably something in the employee contracts that makes it easier for the company to deal with an injured worker than a member of the public.

Well, the general public are not often well trained in the jedi arts, and cannot predict a piece of building falling onto their heads, but workers are generally trained to do their jobs. And they get paid. And they have invented artificial lighting. And its often cold and slippery in the daytime too BTW

This surely reduces the chance of injury as there are fewer people around, but surely doesn't eliminate the risk totally. Some unlucky person walking home from
Kilians in the early hours could still conceivably get hit.
That's pretty unacceptable...

Not so sure, the street outside was quite a pit-fall last Saturday, and it wasn't due to the delicious, cold and refreshing beer which is always served with impressing promptitude and a cheery smile (what about a freebie for that, Hazza?
