Any Aussies fancy a game of
Touch rugby (touch / touch footie etc)
We meet every Sunday in the English Gardens at 11am rain or shine on the open grass area between the Chinese Tower and Seehaus. You can't miss since we are the only ones with odd shaped balls (old joke but still funny) and we usually mark a pitch with some white tape.
All new players are very welcome (absolute beginners, rugby players, men, women etc). It is a great social game and we always go for beer at the Chinese Tower afterwards. We are always glad to see new faces!
We also offer games in competitions For those who would like to play competative Touch, as well as just social touch.
if anyone has any questions, for example about the forthcoming European Touch Chamionships or the German Open Touch Championship, please send an eMail to:
Touch.rugby@freenet.de
Some of blokes must have played some Touch back home, oder?

I've played...and yes, it is fun. It's pretty social and a good way to keep fit. Also baffles the locals on their Sunday morning walk through the park
Unfortunately for me, there's no time for me to do it during the cricket/Aussie rules season.

Being new to this town, haven't yet met many people here. And those I have met seem to be either Brits, Germans or crazy Brazilians. All well and good, but Im wondering if there are any other Aussies here? Or anyone else keen to check out the cricket vs India this week, or Melbourne Cup next Tues. Otherwise I'll just have to hang out with Kiwis

There at the Bondi right now watching cricket and getting drunk.
Or being trained in the finer art of American Football at the Arc and getting drunk with my fellow Americans.

So I have heard a rumour that there is a Downunder Stammtisch (for Aussies, Kiwis and their assorted friends) here in Munich, that meets occasionally... second Friday of every month, or something like that? Is this rumour true? Anyone with more info, please let me know!

Today seems to be one of those days when I'm battling that dreaded affliction - homesickness. I think talking to my drunken friends back home as they boozed on at Melbourne Cup luncheons did it.
Instead of sitting in a dark room, eating Vegemite out of the jar and listening to Cold Chisel, I'd like to do something more pro-active. Does ANYONE out there have ANY info on this supposed Aussie / Kiwi Stammtisch that takes place once a month or so? I've also heard a rumour that there's an Aussie shop here (run by an Austrian guy, or something equally odd)... Does anyone know where this mystery shop is, or how inflated the price of Tim Tams is in said shop?

Thanx, you guys are life savers. I'm feeling much better now... even stopped listening to Cold Chisel (I've put on my Hoodoo Gurus CD instead, which makes me much more cheerful)...

The Aussie/Kiwi group is on the second Friday of every month at 8pm at a pub behind the Aussie shop next to the PennyMarkt. That is what the storeowner told me, he is Austrian, married to a Kiwi running an Australian shop in Germany. Haven't personally checked out thegroup, went to one in Paderborn and it was full of dodgy old German men wanting to pick up homesick virginal backpackers.
Went into the store a few weeks ago and they had NO tim tams but they had tins of Milo for 8 Euros.

i dont like letting people know of my secret milo supplier, but reading that tins cost 8 euro in the aussie shop makes my blood boil.
i buy it for 3.50euro at an asian arabic store. in landwehr str. just off sonnen str.

@IPJ - Good on ya mate! I've always had a weakness for an Australian accent. FYI for you Aussies out there, The Arc International sports bar in
Schwabing is owned by two Aussies. They show Aussie rules football and cricket.

Dec 11 2004, 8:45 pm
do they have VB or Tooheys Old at the Arc???
Jawn
Dec 11 2004, 10:19 pm
I was so pleased to have my first Tooheys since 1997. I was in Brighton a few weeks back and the Aussie pub there was selling 2 Tooheys New for the price of one!
I miss Vitamin B as well.

We have VB at The Arc...
rusty
Dec 13 2004, 4:06 pm
excellent! will pay a visit soon.
Caitlin
Dec 16 2004, 2:32 pm
Hazza, the fact that you stock VB at the Arc is almost enough to make me drag my lazy ass over there one day soon. But if you start stocking Coopers (preferably Pale Ale... I'll forever be a true Adelaide girl) then I will be propping up the bar in your lovely establishment EVERY night, I swear. By the way, any plans to show the Boxing Day Test on the big screen at the Arc? And any plans for an Australia Day do yet?

The Arc on 26th for a few beers and the like. Do they have bundy, and will I get lynched if I bring a sepo? He's a bit of a fan of the Aussie drinks.

I might roll up too for Australia Day. I hope they still serve Augustiner.
BTW, remember the good old days when they used to shift Invasion Day by a couple days so that you could get a long weekend? Those were the days.

Just touched down in Munich today... in time for the Australia Day party

Jan 25 2005, 1:04 pm
Coopers is available, but we're not going to sell it because it's too expensive.
At current prices, we'd have to sell it for around €6 a bottle - more than most people would be willing to pay for a beer...
Hazza
Jan 26 2005, 12:30 pm
We've changed our minds and are going to be selling Coopers - as well as Crown lager, Carlton Cold and the usual VB. All these beers will cost €3.70. We're also going to be selling Aussie Burgers and meat pies...
