Tragic but true - I missed the Aussie Day celebrations at the Arc last week. So now the question remains - do you boys have any Coopers left in stock at the pub, or did the hordes of thirsty ex-pats manage to get through it all on the night? Not to mention the meat pies that I heard rmours about...
If there is still Coopers in stock, put at least 3 bottles aside with my name on it (even if it's sparklling and not the beautiful pale... a girl's got to make do when she's in a foreign land).

Noone's posted here for a while...but I moved to Munich last July and after seeing there were only about 200 of us here thought this was a better way to get in touch with other Australians rather than hang out in the u-bahn hoping to see someone reading the Age. Is anyone still looking at this thread? S

who reads the age???
give me the sydney morning herald over that victorian clone anyday?
there are officially about 590 australians living in munich. ive been here for 3 years. The problem with meeting other australians is that we are very transient (i think most come for 6 months to a year and then go).
keep looking out for that age reader though
perhaps another stammtisch is in order?

Wow.
I'm pretty bummed at the moment.
I was just about to say how lammingtons weren't Aussie, they were a NZ thing. Before I posted I googled to get a quote to back up my claim. Couldn't find one. Instead I found this "jaffas, L&P, lammingtons (also Aussie), Mallowpuffs, marmite/vegemite, Minties..." on a list of Nz foods. So I guess I am conceeding that lammingtons are Australian.
Wow.
Oh well, at least we really did make the pavlova...

why don't you get hazza from the arc to arrange an Aussie/Kiwi stammtisch seeing as most of the Aussies and Kiwis I know go down there anyway. i heard they're putting meat pies on the menu soon and they have Coopers and VB in stock...

There used to be an Aussie Stammtisch in Munich. I have no idea where it is, but have heard from a few long-term Aussies about it - actually, for all I know, it could even still be going on now. Does anyone know?
And yes - we now sell Coopers at The Arc

A Question on Aussie WhiteGoods.
Has anyone bought their fridge, washer, dryer etc from Oz to Munich? Do they work on the different power supply ...? Obviously I need an adaptor plug but thought i'd ask

I read The Age every day. Better than that Sydney clone, the Sydney Morning Herald. (Or that Sydney based right wing Murdoch rag, The Australian). What Australia really lacks though is an equivalent to the Bild or the British Sun. Our tabloids are not tabloid enough (and as such are less entertaining and more dangerous).
BTW. Does anyone else read
http://crikey.com.au ? I recommend it for good political goss.
Stammtisch: I'll try to make it.

Of course we let New Zealanders come. It is even in our constitution (not that I've read it) that if New Zealand wants, they can join the Australian federation. So feel free.

which is the clone?
theyre both great newspapers though
is the 20th a fixed date?

That was quick.
I actually thought as much. Melbourne wasn't even founded in 1831.
The papers are pretty identical, at least from the web sites. You probably just don't get those pictures of the footy (Aussie Rules that is) or maybe the Melbourne Cup, like you do on The Age.
I wonder who bought out whom though?

I suppose that depends on when is best for the most people. So far there haven't been any complaints about it, but only two people have said anything about it.
No Presh, there are more. I'm one and I know one other Strayn here too. Just wanted to let you know you're not alone. We're all just very shy.

Either Saturday 19th or Sunday 20th are good for me for the next Stammtisch - dinner and booze at the Arc then, eh? Whatever's best for everyone else... let's just settle on a damn date and time, so I can pencil it into my lovely pink daily planner, hehe.
BTW Sissy and b-j, I'm from Adelaide (like all truly cool people, hehe)... Where exactly in town are you guys from??
And is my other half able to join us at the Stammtisch this time too? He's not an Aussie, actually an Albanian, but he's pretty proud of all the Aussie slang I've taught him (judging from the number of times he uses the words 'loo', 'reckon' and 'he's up her like a rat up a drainpipe' on a daily basis.
Ooooooooooh, and just to get everyone REALLY excited... I'm going to bring Caramello Koalas to the Stammtisch (good or what?!).

Ok, ok. The date will definitely be the 19th or 20th, but I'll wait until later today to start the 'events' thread. My hubby's going out of town, so I won't know which of those days is better until after he books his ticket today. Stay tuned...

IPJ, if you've posted the date (19th or 20th) in the events thread can you post it here too bitte...I'm too lazy to go looking for it. Either date is good for me...will try and drag along at least one other silence Australian I know in Munich.
Caitlin, j-b congratulations for coming from S.A.!! It's my home state but I've lived in Melbourne now (or did before moving here) for 10 years since I finished school in Adelaide. But I'm proud to still say "lago" instead of "lego" and know what bung fritz is.

Well I guess I`m one of the "silent majority" of Australians who exist but you never see, I`ve been here for 15 years so fairly integrated I guess you`d say, anyway I ( wife & 4 kids ) live down in the mountains ( near Schliersee ) so Munich Stammtisch isn`t really an option but what I did think of was to offer any Australians who are interested an open invitation to come skiing with us which we do practically every weekend in winter.
It means getting up very early on a Saturday or Sunday, and I might even be able to drum up some ski`s as we do have alot of them, you`d need to catch a train down if you don`t have a car ( 50 minutes from Munich, very pictureque ), or drive down, we have an Espace so we can take 1 or 2 extras.
We ski mostly at Südelfeld, Spitzing, Brauneck, Ostin.
Alternatively any Australians going skiing in this area are welcome to drop me a pm and your welcome for a Beer, Coffee or Tea on your way through or back.
For what its worth :-)

I forget what a bung fritz is. Probably some sort of sausage brought over by your German ancestors. I do remember the pie floater, though. Do they still have those?
Wait a sec, wikipedia to the rescue...
Yes they do:

Very excited to report that I have discovered the German equivalent of South Aussie bung fritz (which was German to begin with anyway, I think...) at Tengelman... It's called Gelbwurst, and seems to be a good substitute - enough that I can still make my toasted fritz and sauce sandwhiches, anyway. Yay.
See you all at the
Aussie / Kiwi Stammtisch next Sunday then? My Albanian half might not be able to make it (sigh), which he's very sad about... He's perfected a really good dipthong, and was hoping to use it in the presence of some other antipoedians. But I might bring a Scottish pal along as another foreign substitute...

Hi, we just moved to Munich in August with our now 6 month old boy from Australia.
This is my last hope of meeting any Australian in Munich. I have been carrying a bag with `Australian Geographic`in the front and hoping that someone would come up to me and says `Hi, I am from australia too`, ok, maybe I didnt carry that bag ALL THE TIME, but quite often anyway.
So, if there are any australians out there, particularly mothers, would be lovely to hear from
you..

myself, another aussie fella and a sheila, ( i wont mention the saffa that is coming with us) are living in london for a few years now. we are flying to stuttgart and driving to munchen. we are looking for a party, i came in 04 with the handbag and didnt party so hard. Now i dont mean skulling comps followed by vomit and early sleeping with sparsely mixed brawls, although they provide an incomparable part to the atmosphere. I want an australian level of party without the' take it too far' crew.
see you soon
