Ok, havent been here for long but Im feeling a little bit lonely... it cant just be me,
Hazza and
Bruce. Surely there are some more Aussies lurking around?? Im sick of all these Canadian and American meet ups! We should have a aussie meet up. BYO, XXXX, EB or VB, webber, esky and steak. Dunnies provided. When does the AFL season start?? Where are the fellow convicts, eh?

Presh - there's a few Aussies around town. I met other Aussies, playing Aussie rules or cricket. There will probably also be an Aussie ball again in May, where a few come out of the woodwork.
Most of the Aussies I know hang out at the
Bondi or at the
Outland normally. There are a lot around during Australia Day - next big Aussie event will probably be Anzac Day and if you go out, you'll meet some then. There used to be an Australian Stammstisch, but I haven't heard about that happening since the middle of last year.
But this isn't London and the Australian population in Munich is pretty low. Doesn't really worry me... I reckon it's nice to be a real minority

Hi there fellow Aussies in Munich!
I'm new to this site and I've been here in Munich since mid-last year. Love this city. Will be here for a few years at least.
It's great to hear the banter going back and forth between aussies making their way on the other side of the globe.
I'm up for a kick of the footy (miss it so much, geez), so Hazza, I'll come down for a Saturday sesh.
I'm connected in to a very international crowd here and this Saturday night I'm playing guitar and singing with a portuguese friend of mine at
Leon's Irish Pub in Schwabing. I bet you haven't been to this place yet. If anyone's interested, Schraudolphstraße 24, gig starts at 9pm.
I look forward to meeting you guys soon.
See ya

G'day fellow Strines,
This is my second post (and last mention of the fact) but I've been lurking for some time.
I reckon the missus and I will rock up. We're both true blue !
I hope yooose don't mind that I can't kick a footy to save myself, but I can get by in cricket...
Have any of you chaps and chappets made it to the Aussie stamtisch on the first friday of each month ? We're normally there, but sunday sounds like a good way to catch up with some fellow countrypersons in a different setting, i.e. some movement required !

Hey there Chewie, come along its going to be fun! I´m terrible with the footy and worse with bowling but I can laugh at myself so its all good. I haven´t been to the Stamtisch and it would be great if someone who goes regularly could post the details of the next one on TT? Time, date, place etc?? You could put in in this post or in the events section. Well hope to see you and the missus there!! Katy

A shag is a sea bird that usually sit on large rocks by themselves in the middle of estuaries and oceans. Why? No-one knows... but they do."
So why did everybody laugh when i asked what a shag is? "blinking innocently"

Aussies... don´t forget...
Aussie day in the Park, this Sunday, 2pm meeting outside Seehaus at Englischer Garden... bring your esky with cold beers or if not we can always just go have a few at Seehaus. We will have the footy and a cricket set so come along and pretend that you´re shane waughn or even phil matera!!
Hazza
Apr 28 2004, 12:43 pm
After a short discussion with Presh, we might move the event to the Hirschgarten, as there could well be a training session from the Aussie Rules team there. It'd give the opportunity to join up with the Aussies there. We could meet up at the Beergarden there.
We should also think of a wet-weather alternative. Thunderstorms are forecast for Sunday.
Perhaps if the weather is too bad, we could postpone the event till next week. If we move it inside, it just becomes another Stammtisch, and we can't play any footy or cricket.

The Hirschgarten is fine with me. If the weather is crap then I think we should just postpone until until the following week.
Are you allowed to use a BBQ in the Hirschgarten because I might be able to get my hands on one. Then it would be a real Aussie gathering. All I need then is an apron with plastic tits and then it would be truly authentic.
@ Tench. Excellent idea! The Aussies could create a whole team of them and then no one would ever be able to beat us. Not much different from now really. Maybe mix in a bit of Ponting for fielding skills.

In Hirschgarten you can definitely use BBQs. It's a great place. Lots of space, lots of people, lots of football, etc, etc, etc.
Can I be a plastic-Aussie for the day please?

Directions:
Easiest way is Laim S bahn or the tram along Arnulf strasse which leaves
from hauptbahnhof. Here are directions as follows from harry;
If you are going by s-bahn from town get off the train and go down the stairs to the underground tunnel. Depending which side of the stairs you take you will go different ways at the bottom of the stairs. If you come down the stairs directly into the tunnel, turn right. if not and there is a bike track etc, turn left. Follow that street till you come to a set of traffic lights where there is a soccer club on the corner. turn right at the lights and that street will actually take you to the hirsch garden. just follow the path around till you find us. You can also get the tram along arnulfstrasse which is # 16 or 17 it think which stops at steuben platz.Walk straight into the park and follow the path to your left hand side all the way around till you come to a big hill and a clearing with a red clay soccer pitch over the far side of it.

May 2 2004, 4:06 pm
Well, we got there by tram, and followed the directions, and found the hill and clay coloured soccer pitch, but no Aussies !!!
We walked up and down the whole garden for an hour, but all we could find was lots and lots of soccer games being played. We did come across a couple of lads kicking a footie, but they didn't know anything about a Toytown meetup.
We also walked throught the nearby beergarden.
Oh well, it was a nice walk, but would have preferred to meet you guys and get a game going.
BTW I was the long red haired chap with a black jacket on, and my lady was wearing a grey cord jacket.

May 3 2004, 7:48 am
Oh no!! Soooo sorry Chewie! I should have given you my number!
We sat in the beergarden for ages under a big tree... there were about 10 of us at least... then it started raining so we stayed there until about 3 or 3.30 then we went to the grass when it stopped raining and played cricket and footy!!! Next time we will be better organised! Apologies, apologies!
KoRnFlaKe
May 3 2004, 7:53 am
@ Chewie. What time did you get to the garden? Us Aussies were in the beer garden 2:00 - 3:30. Then we had footy training and we played a scratch match next to the clay colored soccer pitch. The rest of the Aussies were playing cricket near the beer garder. So I guess you were unlucky to miss us. There will be plenty of other opportunuites to meet up. We have footy training at 6:00 on Thursday next to the clay colored soccer pitch. It doesn't matter if you aren't any good or unfit because you won't be the only one.

@tench. Nope, no guitar. And I certainly wasn't playing my air guitar
Never mind, there is the Aussie Stammtisch coming up this Friday (first Friday of the month)
It's at a pub called Kreittmayr roughly 7:30pm on, here is the address:
Kreittmayrstr. 15
80335 München
Maxvorstadt
(It's 2 blocks from the Australia Shop)
You can get a very reasonably priced pub style meal there.
Hopefully the weather will be stable/dry so we can sit out in the beergarden at the back!
