I have never been to India but I love the Indian cuisine in England although for all I know it could be completely different. Being a vegetrian I have to say that I find the Indian food served in Munich terrible. Admittedly I have only tried about 15 restaurants here, but none have rated higher than 1.5 out of 10.
Just personal opinion of course. However the first thing I do whenever I get back to England is go to the pub for a few beers followed by a decent curry. It's one of the few things I miss about England actually, as I certainly don't miss the beer!!!

I think it’s very relative. I personally prefer spicy food, but I need a time out after a meal or two.
Judging from the high attendance in
curry night I reckon plenty others also fancy spicy food. (Can’t say how much & for how long).
I am still stuck to the Indian habit of eating my dinner around 9:30-10 pm, couldn’t defend it being healthy but well that’s our way.
ps: Where in India are u from?
Yes I like Indian food and I am about to have some tonight in fact, as a lot of us are.

welcome to TT!
i love indian food. i had the pleasure of living in an area in Britain famous for some fantastic restaurants. plus my best friend's parents were from the sub-continent and she loved to cook for us.
Indian food here pales in comparison. I find typical German dishes waaay tooo bland and boring.
No, i hardly ever eat dinner at the same time. I do tend to eat lunch around the same time, though, except at weekends. I eat Brötchen quite often but not every day, more like twice a week.

so as I see , u guys normally go out about every wed. to an Indian Restaurant..in that case I would strongly recommend "shere punjab" at
Münchner Freiheit .
For Non-Vegetarians: try chicken jalfarezi
For Vegetarians: Malai Kofta

spicy or hot? for me they are two different worlds apart, especialy when i cooking. german curries usualy suck. i alwys order in english to make sure its something ok. i cook curries for the wife and myself (and as payment for babysitting;-) at least three times a week and usualy a mixed dahl everyweekend - great beer and film food.

My opinion and reasons for the opinion are pretty much the same as OG's.
German food is pretty bland but I still eat plenty of it without complaining.
I don't start eating at 6, I start pre-prandial drinkiing at 6.
Oh and chicken jalfrezi is my staple anyway

Shere Punjab is a bit too small for the number of people who usually turn up for the curry nites. And also, its good for a quick meal , without pinching your wallet so much. But having been in 5-6 curry nites myself, I can safely say that there are quite a lot of places like deeba, maharani etc which serve better food than shere punjab. Maybe you should come for one of the curry nights and see what the other places have on offer.

Christine, I would not exactly call the Shere Punjab a good restaurant. The one at Munchener Freiheit is one of the worst restaurants I have been to. After the slow and terrible service, I have vowed not to go there at all. I actually recommend and prefer Goa, Maharaja, and Maharani Indian Restaurants. After I got home, I was not feeling well. Something about the masala was not right, and the chicken and lamb did not seem fresh at all.
PS, I am from Delhi too.

every Indian family has its own "version" of Dahl..and with that I mean that they all taste quite different, which is pretty surprising (considering the fact that they all use the same spices)

Fair enough.
@Gideon
I don't get how you can do it in 45 mins though. I love Dahl with a passion but am usually disappointed as nothing comes close to the stuff my friend used to make in England.
I used to be able to make sort of ok ish dahl. I haven't done it for years now so I doubt it would be any good.
She used to make me leave it simmer for hours and hours though. Often it got left to sit overnight.
How do you do it?

I find German curry to be a really poor relative of the English cuisine specially prawn pathia or even the every day sags, not only are they bland but also mean on portions. I had a really expensive curry in Ismanning and the devils put cheese in the Korma. I told an Indian restaurant owner friend of mine back in the UK and he is threatening to come over and open up a place here.
A lot of the cuisine in the UK has been developed in the UK by the Pakistani Chefs, coming from London I assume that it's the sad absence of these culinary masters that leaves German curry to be dodgy.
I will come along to a
curry night I would love to be proved wrong my Family are already planning a trip back to the UK for Curry and decent seafood and beef come to that.
Not wanting to attract the comment well why don't you bugger off back home I hasten to add that I love it here the people and the other cuisine are great as is the fantastic beer.

you couldn't get him to bring a Balti chef with him, could you, Clive? Preferably one from a Sparkhill Balti House. And also ask him if he could set up his restaurant near Arabellapark. There is definately a need for more Indian restaurants in that area.
edit: and oh yeah, Gideon's Dahl rocks.

I just saw this ad in The Laimer Anzeige by an Indian restaurant called Madras. It is Muenchen-Allach. When I called to find out, I was told they have a 'mixed' menu. Can you guess what they serve ?
