Won't be there. I have too much to do and it will most likely be raining. Otherwise, would love to play. I even have a football to toss around when things are slow. I guess I will just sit at home an play with myself.

i'm going to go ahead & assume that this isn't going to happen due to lack of people/possibility of rain.
and i'm going to take a nap.
hey, any chance of getting a next game going? maybe during the week as the weekend forecast looks like shite. bit of fresh air and hitting the crap out of things might be just the thing before the wiesn.

@JML, Business as usual then ?
I'ld be up for a game some evening but probably not this week, don't have cleats anymore though, which I would need to run away from JML.
man yeti, i dont actually play games where things come flying at you. i just like to watch. actually i once knocked a girl out accidentally with a softball bat. i did that with a golf club too. same swing, different girl...who the hell runs up to someone swinging a bat or a club anyway?
anyhoo, anytime would be good. i just want to be in the park and after seeing the nekid tai chi the other day i decided it might be good to watch a softball game. dont know why seeing some old wrinkly guy stretching around naked as a jay bird made me think of soft balls but there you have it.

Silly me, But is baseball and softball the same?
Owain Glyndwr
Sep 1 2005, 9:35 am
not the same but similar. I am no expert but the differences I am aware of are, firstly, that the pitcher can only pitch under-arm and, secondly, that the ball is much larger and slightly softer than a baseball. There are probably loads of other differences but as well.
eriiki tubbs

OG got the main and most important differences. Some others:
Generally, a softball diamond is smaller than a baseball diamond, and also, runners on bases are not allowed to run until the ball has been released by the pitcher. Thus, there's no stealing bases as such in softball.
I should be able to make this too, sounds like a great event!

There must be some sort of penalty for dog-hitting...have to look it up. Something about one dog-hit a season or so.
Hey Persimmon, if you're keeping count I'll be dragging along a newbie. Doesnt even know that TT exists, yet...mwhahahahaaa.

Dumb-ass of the week award nimonee here. Arrived at
Seehaus around 12:00 and proceeded to walk aimlessly around the Garden for two hours (first visit - this place is bigger than Wales!) Saw lots of touch rugby, soccer and naked bathers - couldn't find the Softball.
Will try again next week and remember to take my handy for assistance.
Very nice walk though!
Hope it all went well.
See you next week.

Question:-
Whats the difference between a Slow Pitch Bat and a Fast Pitch Bat ?
Is it the type of Game or ?
persimmon
Sep 5 2005, 7:34 am
Thanks everyone for coming out, it was a great time (even with the slippery 2nd base and those people milking their injuries to get out of running

). Maybe we can fit another one in before winter's here.
MadGolfer: Not sure how the bat is different, but you should probably get a slow-pitch bat if you're going to play how we did. With slow-pitch the ball is thrown in an arc shape and fairly slowly to make it easier to hit. Fast-pitch is thrown, obviously much faster and doesn't have that nice arc, but just goes straight like a baseball. If you have more questions, you could pm yossarian as he is a bit more of a sports expert.

MadGolfer,
The two games are very different as you guessed and the main difference is the speed at which the ball is pitched to the batter. Since Slow Pitch is a slow, under-hand arc, the bats are made with more flexible materials which result in more of a rebound effect which creates distance. Think of Slow Pitch bats as trampolines.
Since Fast Pitch is a very fast, under-hand pitch with NO arc, the ball tends to come off the bat at very fast speeds, so the materials are more dense. The pitcher is supplying the velocity, so the bat does not need to do as much work. I am assuming you play golf, so the perfect analogy would be Graphite shaft for a golfer that needs more power versus a steel shafted club which is much more rigid and offers more control.
The most important thing to know is that if you buy a slow pitch bat, you should not use it for fast pitch, as there is a good chance the bat will be damaged and someone could get hurt.
Sorry for the long explaination.
