This is an e-mail I wrote (with all the rude bits edited out) to a TT member who asked about the Munich road runners club.
"I went along on Sunday morning and met the MRRC guys. It was a bit painful 'cos I was out until 3 a.m. on Saturday morning.
However, they were the usual bunch of slightly ill runners. Some of the fittest guys I have ever run with, but all very friendly and inclusive. Not too much English spoken, but that suits me fine. I need to practice my fritz.
We did about a 20 km run down to Gruenewald and back which was glorious on Sunday a.m. There was another group with most of the girls which left with us. They were the slower group and took an easier pace. Not that ours was too fast at all. About 5.20 mins per km. So really quite comfortable.
Some of those guys really are fit. They do an annual club "Tour" to Trieste to run the Maratone d'Europa (sp?) each May. Might get on to that bandwagon because the benefits of training with those guys over the winter will see me get near or even better my PB from last year.
Of equal importance is the various training sessions the club offers. They do speed raining each week, and there is another running option mid-week (so you don't have to turn up hung over like me every Sunday). There is also swimming training, and a good deal of the club's activities seems to be geared towards tri-athletes as well.
All sorts of levels, all sorts of members - the serious guys who do min. 80 km per week, and lots of older slower runners who just enjoy a good chat during a nice slow run.
