Experiences working at a publishing company

I was wondering if any of you have worked in a publishers, and if so, what type of job did you have there? I'm also interested in knowing how you got the job there, or if it was only a work experience job (Prakitkum) then how you got that, if you were paid.
Any tips about starting a career in this area would be great too, i.e. which qualifications one usually looks for, what areas you can work in in a publishers, what types of things your company published etc.

my wife has worked for wolters kluwer for the last 5 years but doesn't TT very often, so i'll prod here in the right direction and get her to pm you this weekend.

in short, she studied law and wolters kluwer is a legal publishing firm. applied for several and got the job at WK.

I am writing a book now for Verlag and will tell you from that point of view if you want that too.

In what sense? i.e. you're an author and want to get a book published there? Doesn't that make you a freelance writer? If not, I wasn't aware that writers worked for publishers directly. I wasn't actually thinking about writing books though.

I am starting a full time job at a publishers in November. I am in Ireland until Tuesday but when I get back we can have a chat about it.

I am one of the authors, but mostly the de facto editor. It is a specialty science handbook and they contacted us about writing it. They seem to publish about one of these a year and we are the lucky ones for next year I guess.

sorry UA, but you make us all curious, especially since 2 years ago you wanted to work for a book publisher, now this? nothing wrong with defining yourself every few years or so...

Does any one know about the procedure of starting a publishing house here in Germany?
