Always have a soft spot for fish fingers, chips and baked beans.
Sometimes whene the world gets too much to take then you
can always rely on FFCBB to get you back on track.
Anyone else got their own special 'comfort food' tips?

Chunky potato soup with onions and carrots and celery and fresh marjoram and meatballs made out of raw Schweinswürstl (the pink kind, not the gray ones which have been boiled in water).

Macaroni and cheese. The kind they make at Five Star Day Cafe in Athens, Georgia. I get homesick just thinking about it.

I'm with Carm - Tomato soup & grilled cheese. I'll pass on the choc milk though.
Also, chocolate chip cookies with milk if I'm suffering from a particularly bad case of homesickness.

Boeuf Bourguignon or similar. With 3 or 4 kilos of mash potato. I could eat it almost every day. Also one of the best things you can do to get the best out of the cackhouse beef over here in sausageland.

now that i think about it when your having a total shit day, or week as my case is, what does bavaria offer for proper comfort food? I went as low as kfc last night. there must be better options.

Manky wart encrusted pidgeons from trafalgar square would be preferable to the evil that is KFC. Actually, I think I may inadvertently found the colonels "secret" right there.

Actually Bavaria is not too bad at comforty foods IMO. Certainly better than other bits of Germany I've been to. Loads of wintery hearty dishes, which all go down well as comfort food I reckon, and those whackingf great potato dumpling things. Well nice. Also, those fat old white sausages for brekky, although the beer is the real comforting bit there.
S'pose it depends on whether you think of comfort food as "something from home" or just something, well, comforting.

I have to agree with don_riina on this one. I find a proper Weisswurstfrühstück to be mighty comforting, and when I'm really feeling low I drag my sorry self over to the corner biergarten for a plate of käsespätzle.

Iain, go for a slice of steaming hot Schweinsbraten with a nice, light brown, BUBBLY crust and a scoop of potato-cucumber salad with freshly ground pepper.

Alot of Bavarian places have Hirsh or Reh (deer) gulausch (with knodle or noodles) - I love it, and its my comfort food here! Helps with my homesickness too, as we normally eat lots of deer and moose at home too!
For something fast foodish- I generally get some Schweinebraten mit Kruste from the Viktualien markt or a curry wurst.

Well, normally I stop eating when I need some comfort. But if I've had too much Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet-Carmenére, Syrah (...) I sometimes fancy (and eat) some Salt n' vinegar crisps
