I've seen on here somewhere that the Moser guides are the ones to get for mountain biking. Which ones should I get and do they happen to come in English? Sorry if this has been discussed before. I tried to search the forums but couldn't find anything.
Thanks,
M

They aren't in English, no. But they are not too hard to follow.
As for which one to get.. There are many and it just depends on the area you are in. I have 3.. I think one for Garmisch one for the trails south along the Isar and one more. I have not used them anywhere near as much as i'd hoped...

Get guides 1 (Tegernsee) and 2 (Garmisch) ... Thats all you need. The ones for Gardasee are good too...can't remember their numbers though. Sorry...Eh? For the areas near Munich get the München Bayrisches Oberland Radwanderkarte map. The map is laminated and is good shite.

Tegernsee, Chiemsee, Garmisch & Garda See ones, in fact Garda Vol2 is worth buying just for the cover alone!

Alternatively you could get out with Lurch but then you'd also need to buy the collar bone repair guide...

I've got the Garmish one. Personally, I've just copied down all the routes onto a map to get an idea of which trails are most likely to be ridable. Then I plan my own routes and just take the map with me.
If you want to borrow it, just send me a PM.
btw: I'll be out for a relatively easy ride on Sunday - probably taking the BOB to Mittenwald and riding back to Garmisch or Oberau, if anyone is interested ...

Does anyone know of any descent "technical" single trail areas with a short steep climbs and steep drops south of Munich.
I live near the Isar and you can ride up and down the banks, but it's not that great.
In Germany, being German, they literally do "mountain biking" - in other words riding 600mts+ up a fire road and then ridnig down again. I can do it, but it's fucking boring.

I'm going out south of Munich tomorrow for a Isar run... Pretty much just looking for the most f##cked-up descents along the river. Meeting at the wooden bridge (footbridge) above the zoo for 8am. Descents are short and sharp nothing over 2mins or so. But the aim is to do as many as possible. Beer obivously at Mühletal or thereabouts and back again. Pads are probably a good idea.

Hell, you almost need pads to go drinking with Lurch. Imagine what riding a bike with the bloke must be like. Ha!
Kera and I are supposed to be moving in to apartment tomorrow. Also, our other 4 bikes should be showing up as well. Woo-hoo! Finally. Now, we'll be able to go ride with all you goobers.

Och! It's not that bad... Pads are really there just in case and there are always opt-out ways around the more stupid stuff.

Garmisch single trail, with Lurch, Bobke & Kit in action...

lurch, I'd be keen on joining you tomorrow morning if that's okay. Is the bridge the one at the south end of the Tierpark? or the one that diagonally crosses the river just north of the zoo?
However, I'm out for a few beers tonight, so I can't promise that I'll make it - so if I'm not there on time, don't wait.

Looking at the pictures, I see one of you is also mad enough to have a Cannondale Lefty (never, ever, take your hands off the bars!)
I can't make tomorrow, but I'd like to come along. I will track the thread and jump in.
Checking out the photos, its looks fun - kinda hairy, but only if you stop and start thinking about the drop off.

Do you ever cheat and take the cable car to the top?

In saying that, I am not into Leogang Bike World downhill stuff - the adrenalin rush is fatal for me. I did it last year and did one hell of high-side after getting it all wrong over a double bump - followed by another crash when I lost the front trying to outbrake a couple of full Downhiller dudes into hairpin on a fire road.

Blood everywhere!

Yep, I made it, but it was a 10k ride for me just to get to the meet point. So I only rode with them for about 30 mins then decided it was all too much for my knee
Bloody chilly & foggy too.. I actually quite enjoyed it.

So, what's been decided? Where/when? Yes, I'm a pain in the ass.
