After long and thoughtful discussion with myself I sometimes wonder if the Veggie faction are right about somethings in life, apparently an abbatoir in Deggendorf has been using rotten abbatoir refuse to be used in various proccesed meats. Just thought I`d liven up your breakfast wurst-semmel. Oh they did mention that all the questionable products had been consumed. Glad I don`t eat stuff like that anyway.

Abattoir
ab·at·toir P Pronunciation Key (ab-b-twär)
n.
1. A slaughterhouse.
2. Something likened to a slaughterhouse: “The hand of God and mankind's self-inflicted blows seem equally
heavy... giving a strong cumulative impression of the world as an abattoir” (Manchester Guardian Weekly).
Many processed meats contain unwanted meats.. Only this places actually got caught using "bad/Rotton" meat..They didn't get busted for using "unwanted parts"... Only that the "unwanted meat used was bad..

if it is blue colored then it can also be a Nick Cave album!
Ah! Leberkäse. The German version of rissoles. And, if you've ever wondered why we calls 'em 'rissoles' it's coz they're full of ear'oles, eye'oles an' arse'oles.

No, not even there. More in gelantine products such as gums and yoghurts.
Also note that it's
Der Stern that is coming up with this story - this is the news magazine that claimed to have found Hitler's diaries in the 80s, so who knows what in essence is behind this story.

The company is called "Frost GmbH".
Bon Appétit.
http://www.pnp.de/lokales/news.php?id=31795couldn't find anything about it on the Stern site, although this article does mention Stern as the originator.

1. As Oli said, Stern is not a reliable news source
2. Magazines like this make their money sensationalizing stories and blowing things out of proportion
3. German regulations of the food industry are extremely strict

I read about it in the Süddeutsche this morning while having my third coffee. They have an article on it on the front page of the "Bayern" section.

Hmm. I know a guy who does the quality control tests for butchers, and I'm seeing him tonight. I think I'll ask him about it.

Just on the radio, the state prosecutor says that they are at the beginning of an "umfangreich" investigation.
I seriously doubt only one slaughterhouse was involved.
Now I admit I buy some meats in Plus but ever cheaper and cheaper meat was bond to lead to stuff like this no? Like a chciken costing less in actual money than it did for gransparents etc. ???

this is the land of the 'surprise bag' after all. have you taken a really close look at a slice of salami?

Most salamis are from Italy, so you shouldn't be too worried. But...
I've always wondered about €0.55 bierwurst at Plus..

I just checked with my friend's wife. He wasn't there because of the work involved in this. It's a customer of Südfleisch AG with whom this is an issue. Meaning nothing wrong with Südfleisch, just their customer (I didn't get a name) but definitely a true story.

Good morning to all and sundry, I did hear on the news that this time ( the guy involved has been done for this shit before) over !,000,000 tons could be the the end amount involved. It`s everywhere from wurst to yoguhrt to gummi-bears and all kinds of foodstuff. Glad I only eat meat that hasn´t been chewed up and farted into a box.Or packet or whatever.

Good news for The Widow and all other TT members living in Deggendorf. According to the
Süddeutsche Zeitung of this morning, Frost GmbH has now been closed down. Apparently it's a meat-processing company situated right next to a furniture shop in Deggendorf. The furniture shop reports previously having had problems with all sorts of vermins on the adjoining premises. The stench is supposed to be overwhelming. Shouldn't be too hard for you to find in Deggendorf, just follow your nose..

what an offal thought!! so, if i follow your post correctly, because the market place has pushed prices down by competition and globalisation anyone who feels unable to compete may be very likely to endanger public health by using non-sanctioned products?
hmm i started writing this thinking no most people wouldnt do that but...actually

Not just the very heavy competition in itself but our expectation as consumers that food should be cheap cheap cheap. The supermarket chains who dominate retail food sales push down the prices they are willing to pay.
I find it VERY interesting that this is ANOTHER meat scandal in Germany yet there is still popular predudice against British produced meat becasue of the former scandal on BSE and the Foot and Mouth outbreak.
In fact, I'd wager that with the VERY zealous Meat Hygene Service in the UK, that Britain has higher standards than Germany on meat despite the rules being the same EU ones.

Schnappauf (Health Ministry) wanted to recall all the products but they have been sold and probably eaten by now.
