After a discussion last night I thought I'd see what opinions other people have on the Munich Found magazine.

For my part I am not a fan. I've bought it about 4 or 5 times during my time here and my opinion has yet to change. Despite what I said last night my dislike of this mag doesn't have anything to do with their not printing my little story, "The Lock, The Dildo & The Bicycle". No, my objections rise primarily out of the fact that the entire editorial staff are female. Now don't go jumping up and down, anyone who knows me knows I am most certainly not sexist. It's just that for want of a better expression the magazine seriously lacks some balls.

If you want to find out about a new art exhibition, fancy café or the latest sob story novel then you're in business but in my opinion it's of very little use to the average person living in Munich today. Granted the classified ads, contact numbers and whatnot are very handy to have but they can be gotten anywhere for free and once you've got them once you're sorted.

For the most part I find the magazine to be a large pile of wishy-washy crap which is very female oriented and seriously lacking in substance.

Just so I'm not just a complete moaner I'm going to write an article and submit it to them again. We shall see what happens. For the good of Munich I am going to offer my balls for submission.

Sounds like a business opportunity/potential to me.

"Munich Lost" perhaps.

If it weren't for Toytown, Munich Found would be alright actually. I found that it had some interesting bits of information, the thing is that the site has everything of use (more or less) that you've got in the magazine a mouse click away.

@keydeck..I look forward to seeing your balls in print, sir.

ps: I hear there have been articles in MF so similiar to TT postings it makes one raise an eyebrow. That is, if one is indeed capable of raising said eyebrow.

Indeed, Toytown covers most subjects quickly and thoroughly. But, it would be nice to have a magazine that I can take on the train or read on the crapper. The New in the City freebie I sometimes like. Sure most of the content has been on TT but it's still nice to have a paper format.

I am a fan of any English written periodical. It is just a reflection of how poorly I am doing with my German

Jesus...the staff are all female. Help!!! What would anyone say if they were all male? Not a bloody thing I would expect. What f/&K has that got to do with the price of eggs?. Probably just said to get a rise out females I guess...

Not knowing the gender of the staff until today has not affected my enjoying buying Munich Found. Their articles are usually informative with much more info than you get out of tourist guides. I have many old editions at home to give my visitors when they want something to read about Munich. No complaints so far...

I used to buy MF when I first came to Munich. (Internet didn't exist back then...)
I seldom buy it now and tend to agree with you Keydeck, it's lacking 'oomph'.

don't know if that's to do with all the staff being female tho.

TT is far more informative when I need to find out something.

It's not my cup of tea either; it's just lacking in information, and 'Stoff', i.e. words to bulk out the flimsy thing. It mostly consists of advertising and pictures. There are a few lame articles, but certainly not worth whatever they charge nowadays. The free 'City' newspaper is much more informative.

I've read it what, 3 times in 13 years.

From what I remember I find it lightweight, pedestrian and uniformative.

Some exhibition from the "writers" cousin at Amerika Haus?
What is the Schloss Neuschwanstein like?
Trendy Cafés on the Leopoldstrasse?

Like I give a f***.

But I'm sure all the staff now are lovely people.

No silly. I figured someone would pick it up incorrectly. Perhaps I didn't phrase it very well. Let me try again. I think that for the most part the content of Munich Found is pretty wishy-washy waffle which is not particularly useful for the average English speaking resident in Munich. I attribute this largely to the fact that the editorial staff is entirely female. I am quite sure that other females could and probably would do a much better job. JML springs to mind. But, the staff there currently seem, in my humble opinion, to give the content an entirely female bias which I feel detracts from what could potentially be a very good publication. If there were men involved at some level then I believe that it could have a slightly different angle which would make it more appealing to me. If their staff were entirely male and I didn't like the magazine then I would complain about the reason I didn't like it, just as I am doing here. Believe me, I am an equal opportunities abuser.

Probably just said to get a rise out females I guess...
Spare me. I have better things to be doing with my time. Why the hell (to quote Jeremy) would I want to piss off the female contingent?

Fine for a visitor. Quick glance on a very superficial level at items which might be of interest to someone on a short break.

As MT said, I'm sure the staff are lovely people. I just personally don't like the job that they are doing on the magazine.

As a whole I don't think it is very useful, especially with Toytown in the picture.

DO NOT get me started on Munich Found. I tried TWICE to get them to have a shopping section but with no avail...until I started writing one for tt. And now, all of a sudden they have one too. Could be that they started it before my shopping articles came out here, I don't know I don't read it regularly, but that would be a big coincidence .

Without blowing our own trumpets, least of all mine as I'm a bit of a newbie on here:
If the cutting edge "whats on" sites like Minga are getting stuff off here as does the SZ then I am SURE that Munich Found "re-cycles" the contributions of posters on TT.
