What money is available?

I am an American Student studying in TUM in Garching in Chemistry. I have just finished my 'Diplome' as they call it here. Now I am unofficially working on my Ph.D. in the same place. About a month ago, I submitted all the official stuff to the University office and am still waiting for the official papers. I did not get any form of Scholarship or Stipend for my first 6 months here. My boss says that until the official papers get in, he will not pay me. It sucks really. Now is there anything I can do? I am even what some call a TA/RA (Teaching assistant, Research Assistant). But still no money. Someone told me that maybe I can get some money from the University or even from the State of Bavaria, but that seems like a long shot. Any pointers please.

TA/RAs get paid. If you don't get paid, it means you are not a "real" TA/RA.

not for this emergency need cash immediately situation, but you should think about applying for a fullbright scholarship.. especially if you are in Germany studying, from the US and doing graduate work... they have short term and long term scholarships.. You have to be a US citizen to get them.. so you would qualify... you just missed the 2006 deadline... but check out their website anyways.. you never know...

good luck

Did you check the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst)? They have scholarships for foreigners but unfortunately I don't know if they have anything for your situation.
I don't know about the TU but the LMU has a special scholarship-office where you can get information.

I guess I'm the "someone" mentioned by vishalarora in the first post. I have no idea if such things exist here in Germany, but in the UK most of the big universities have things called "Hardship Funds". If you are absolutly skint, and are prepared to demonstrate the fact that you cannot continue without extra cash, they will give you a loan or even just some money. Not much mind... but enough to live on.

Like I say, I have no idea if that is also the case in Germany.
