I think that when the Germans say they will complete something on time, they usually do. But I am getting bogged down living in Garching. I decided to stay here only because of the close proximity to TUM. Plus, the city is just a train ride away. But now, I am beginning to think that the UBahn to the TUM campus will never finish. Anyone got any news of the sort. I mean, the U6 ends at Garching Höchbruck ends here, but you can clearly see the tracks going on, under the tunnel. Winter is almost at our doorstep and I am a lazy guy, I dont wanna keeep taking the bus to the train station. Come on man!!

Well the deadline is next spring-summer I reckon. But I don’t think it would be finished on time. The biggest problem I think is that they hardly have recruited anyone to work on the Ubahn station. I find it ridiculous to see that two men working to built a whole U-bahn station. Having said that I know its a big pain to get back to Garching specially during the night (more killingly in the winters).May God give u the strength to endure the forthcoming winters
btw: I also live in Garching..

The completion date for the work? October the first, 2006. Current estimate is that the project will be delivered on time. Coincindentally, if the project is on time it will exactly match the day my contract here ends. Lovely.

The opening is planned for 14 October 2006, there have been trial runs already. Trains will run - empty - from Garching-Hochbrück to Garching-Forschungszentrum for the next few weeks for last tests and technical acceptance.

This picture shows the exit for the underground station in
Garching - sort of post-earthquake architecture IMO.

In fact the test trains have already been shuttling backwards and forwards, which just enhances my annoyance at the cruel timing! There is a big party planned in
Garching for the weekend of the opening, and all the institutes and university departments will be have a "Day of the Open House". Good chance to look round a research reactor, see the largest energy storage flywheel in europe and learn some science. Although practically all the displays will be in German, almost every scientist is fluent in English, there should be something for everyone. I'll post more when I know more.

The event is called
Forschung Live; it's the 'Tag der offene Tür' of the TUM at their three campuses. To see the nuclear reactor, you need to get there very early due to limited capacity and high popularity.

Anyone else fancy getting there for 9am on the 15th?

If only I was still in town I could give you a guided tour of our place, but unfortunately I'll be long gone. Hope you enjoy it, there is an amazing amount to see out here. Make sure you visit the three-storey high parabolic slides in the maths department...

Those are really fun! We used to slide down before very difficult exams to release some tension. You've got to try them!

I am so there.
I never realised there was cool stuff there before now. I would have "asked nicely" long ago had I known
