inspired by
Ulysses on the other thread (who claimed he preferred Celine to the Big Guy), i thought i'd try out the new poll software.
to me, they are both appalling, and if i was in a bar that played more than one track of theirs i'd insist on leaving, but which one would you listen to if you *had* to pick one?
jesus, polls are complicated these days, btw...

That poll is too complicated. They are all a cunch of bunts. Fatties, Faggots or Fuckin Ugly.
I would rather listen to my special "Kraut Mix" I have on at the moment featuring Nina, Christine Sturmer, Juli, Wir Sind Helden etc. It is my attempt to integrate.
p.s. I have seen Meatloaf live. Utter cack. Not as painfully tedious as Eric Clapton but still dreadful.

I'd rather listen to Gildo (Dildo) Horn or the wombles or the Bay City Rollers or René and Renate if you are old enough to remember that one...

polls are complicated things, nowadays...
i could have even added a third question

it's all too much for my poor addled brain to deal with
Ulysses
Oct 5 2005, 4:17 pm
In my defence, I only bought it because I was desperate for French music and actually ended up liking it. Don't like the rest. Meatloaf though sucks big time.
Topsy
Oct 5 2005, 4:18 pm
@ DD - actually, you know, looking back the Bay City Rollers did some decent tracks
Remember Shang-a-Lang?

@ Ulysses - I don't blame you, it's a very difficult choice
as i said, they are both torture on the eardrums
Ulysses

@Topsy
Yes, but least Celine sings in French which in itself is music to a lot of ears. I definitely don't listen to her in English.
Topsy
Oct 5 2005, 4:22 pm
if you want some french music, i can burn you some negresses vertes, mc solaar and saian super crew
all are surely far preferable to ms dion, n'est-ce pas?

Very definitely, now I have Noir Desir, Francis Cabrel and Le Telephone. Much, much better. But back home, I couldn't get that stuff.
Topsy
Oct 5 2005, 4:26 pm
Telephone are also fab
Au coeur de la nuit was the first French album I ever bought
Eleanor Rigby

I wanted to vote for Celine but the poll wouldn't let me
How can you people say she doesn't have a beautiful voice?
Good Voice just Crap Songs

Alright Rus, that one I'll give you.

Ah, so the poll has been rigged. Is there an election inspector option? Not that I care what the majority think. I like my French album.

This special dedication goes out to Ulysses:
"Will you cater to every fantasy I got?
Will ya hose me down with holy water, if I get too hot?
Will you take me places I've never known?
[Loaf] I can do that! Oh oh now, I can do that!
After a while you'll forget everything
It was a brief interlude and a midsummer night's fling
And you'll see that it's time to move on
[Loaf] I won't do that! No I won't do that!
I know the territory, I've been around
It'll all turn to dust and we'll all fall down
And sooner or later, you'll be screwing around
[Loaf] I won't do that! No I won't do that!"
People, this is classic, gut-wrenching songstry. Celine has not one song in her repetoire with such a visceral impact.

Good god, Meatloaf is on Bayern 3 right now! WTF! I gotta run run!!!
Not to confuse matters but
It's all coming back to me now (Celine) And I would do anything for love (Meat) were both penned by Jim Steinman
Does this mean that he actually responsibile for the crap produced by both and we just take it out on him?

HELL YEAH! Am now streaming in Bayern 3. I consider this little coincidence a moral victory.
Edit: Shit, I only caught the last few lines. Boo, hiss.

is a bit - unless my vote in question one was actually registered but it couldn't do the results section until I had voted in two - and it thus pretended to give an error

Yes, I believe you have to answer both sets of questions in order for your vote to register.
Meatloaf may or may not be shite but he had at least one good song whereas Ms. Squealine "I look like a russian helicopter gunship and sound like a bad lawn mower" Dion is probably the reason why intelligent extraterrestrial life hasn't contacted us yet.

I hate Celine more than anyone (see my 'Celine Dion Sucks' thread) but Yeti has done us all a favour with this remarkable piece of prose...
As far as Meat goes, since Fight Club... well any rock star who will get made up as Bob with Bitch Tits? He rules.
Erm... where is the "I'd rather put a gun to my head and pull the trigger than listen to any of this tosh" button?

Useless trivia:
Celine Dion was the second Eurovision contestant who rose to international "stardom" (whatever that means). She came in second in mid-80s, with a song written by a turkish guy. She was well known in Turkey way before she was famous worldwide.
Moral of the story:
Ban Turkey from the EU

Well I have to say I think some of Meatloaf's earlier stuff, like the epic full length version of "Bat out of Hell" and "Dead Ringer for love", "Two out of Three ain't bad" and so forth were brilliant records
his later stuff was cack though.
