Hiya
can anyone recommend a nice hotel in central Berlin?
Would prefer boutique hotel, does not have to be very cheap and would be for a weekend because I want to take Herr Indoors to this. smile.gif
Thanks

The Raffles place isn't very boutique, but it is 5 star, right on the Kudamm and the rooms are very nice, and the restaurant looked fab too - veggie mate with me tho, meant we couldn't eat there... sad.gif

very nice and not expensive (call them up for a better rate than advertised on line) is Riehmershofgarten

at the top of the range there really is no substitute for The Adlon
mrbobke
Ku'Damm 101 or Gates Hotel (comes with a computer in every room, seriously! blink.gif ) are both boutique-like.

If you are willing to spend the money, nothing in Berlin comes close to the Adlon

... and if you are not, the Kudamm 101 rocks!

Katrina ...

I'd have to agree with Mrbobke,

Ku'Damn 101 ... the location is very convenient, not too $$ ... and the rooms are tres chic!

I think we're going to the Art'otel now as the Comet pop awards are on that weekend but Art'otel still has rooms of a type we want at a price we'll pay (plus Herr Indoors likes the concept and seeing as we are going for his birthday it is his pick really).
Thanks for all the ideas though!

My sister is coming out for a visit and to run the Berlin marathon next month. Does anyone know a good place for four people to stay in Berlin for a good price?

Hey!
The Motel One group has got 2 branches in Berlin. I have never stayed there, but there is also one in Putzbrunn and my mum stayed there once and it was really nice and inexpensive.

Thanks Dan, looks good. Anyone have any other suggestions (think student pay)?

Hey, if she can afford to get to Berlin, she can afford a hotel. If not, the hostels a little way from the center are cheap.

It's not her I'm worried about, she's got Geld. It's me!

Im going to Berlin on Easter to meet with a couple of friends. I already booked a hostel in the Zoo area which I heard was pretty good. But his family might also be coming (they're coming from Canada) so he asked me to find a good hotel, not a hostel of course, thats close to our hostel we're gonna be in so that they can stay there. I tried looking on the internet, but I have no idea what or where the streets are from their names. So I need some help if anyone knows some good hotels in or around Downtown Berlin.

The only one I know of, or at least seen in an article, was I think a Radisson Hotel that had a 250,000 gallon Saltwater Fish tank in the middle in which the elavator traveled!!! I would stay here just for this..smile.gif

I was in Berlin a few weeks back and stayed at the 'Hotel California'. Wasn't a great hotel, but not too expensive, and quite handily situated (about 3min walk from the Gedachtniskirche on the Ku'damm). The time before that I stayed at the Swiss'otel at Ku'damm Eck, but that's quite pricey.

Thanks a lot people, appreciate the help

Time to revive the thread now that we got Berlin at the table.
Any recommendations for a decent pension in centre? We are heading there Easter weekend.
Is it just me or is it really expensive, couldn't find anything under 100 EUR per night, but then it has been ages since we stayed in a hotel so maybe it's just me.

Looking for a nice pension or B&B or hotel with breakfast included. Checked Trip Advisor and all the usual suspects so have some leads, just wondering what TT comes up with.

Thanks!

Well, you have the Ibis Express by Holiday Inn (Stresemannstr. 49)/Suite Hotel (Anhalter Str. 2)/Ibis (Anhalterstr. 4)/Etap (Anhalterstr. 6) near Anhalter Bahnhof which is not even 5 mintes walk from Potsdamer platz and (depending on quickly you walk) 20 minutes to the Brandenburg gate. Never stayed in them myself but never had any complaints from people we have put up there.

my wife and me live in berlin and have a small apartment in prenzlauer berg that we use as a guest room. i am german but my wife & kids are american, we are new to tt and since this seem to be nice american-speaking people we consider renting the apartment out, which we did not really do before. BUT its non-smoking, theres a little patio though where you can smoke, its even got a little piece of "garden" with an extra exit since its ground floor. its a one room apartment but the room is quite spacious and its got an about 10 square meter "2nd floor" with an additional double bed. so it easily accomodates 4. its got an extra kitchen and bathroom with tub. we would charge about 150 euros a week or 500 a month. and we would have to get an idea of who comes and that they are trustworthy people who treat other peoples property with respect. actually i dindt talk this over yet with my wife but i think she would agree. i hope. ;-)

We're in a similar situation as the person before...

We've never been to Berlin, and so I'm really unfamiliar with the neighborhoods when the hotels tell me location. We'd like something central, near a bahn station, and with good shops/restaurants around the hotel. Which neighborhoods does that describe??

We've also heard the east side is more 'funky' and can be fun. Any thoughts there?

We've also looked at the following hotels, based on tripadvisor:
Honigmond Garden Hotel
Hotel A&I Konigshof
Askanisher Hof
Arcotel Velvet
Dorint Novitel Berlin am Tiergarten
Goethe 87
Mercure - Checkpoint Charlie

Any of the above hotels stand out for TTers, and they'd recommend? We'd like to spend under 110 euros; all of the above should fit the range based on looking on venere.com and hotel websites.

So many questions, so little time! I appreciate your help. Thanks!

Of those, the Honigmond stands out as by far and away the most interesting-looking (not a chain hotel), and convenient location for the centre of eastern Berlin. Definitely the funkiest of the lot.

"Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten" is right next to S-Bahnhof Tiergarten and the Tiergarten itself, very convenient for transport and you might have some nice views. Not too much of interest (restaurants etc.) in the _immediate_vicinity, but Zoo / Kudamm are one stop away to the west, and eastern Berlin a few stops to the east.

Askanischer Hof is on the Ku'damm, also quite central and looks quite nice.

The A&I Konigshof is on Stuttgarter Platz which is the place to go for table dance bars and cheap import-export shops, but otherwise I wouldn't recommend it.

Dunno about the others.

the arcotel is ok for a night or two although if you're looking for one of more budget-y rooms my experience has been that the bathroom arrangements are weird (you only get a full bathroom with a suite, otherwise it's some odd curtained-off arrangement, which - frankly - freaked me out)
if you can put up with the initially unfriendly staff, I'd recommend the Melia (not one you selected) which has a top-notch location (by Friedrichstrasse) and is actually damn near on a four 1/2 star; ignore what tripadvisor says - they've fixed the air-conditioning problem that people were moaning about on trip advisor. If you're lucky you can usually get some pretty good deals on the melia on expedia which should, i think, fit your budget (ish). That would be my pick. smile.gif

Melia is very good and you can sometimes get good deals with them with HRS

Another one I had my family stay in was the Jolly Vivaldi Hotel alos on FreidrichStrasse exactly opposite the train station. Also a 4 star and excellent rooms and very very quite. Convenient for travel and loads of restaurants/bars around.

Honigmond Garden Hotel - I really like this place. nice restaurant too. My top pick out of all you've listed.

Dorint Novitel Berlin am Tiergarten - not a great location. big and boxy but perhaps a bit edgy given it's directly adjacent to where the prostitutes hang out.

Mercure - Checkpoint Charlie - this is a good location. you're not far from gendamenmarkt, check point charlie (obviously) .. second choice.

edit: as I was typing this I noticed prices seem to be going up for rooms this fall. anyone else noticed that?!
TobyG.
Honigmond is a really nice hotel. The only drawback: Not many restaurants DIRECTLY around and not really near a public transport junction around the corner.
What's also said to be good is the Arcotel Velvet. Nice, interesting area, and good concept. Forget the rest (askanischer hof sounds nice, but I personally don't like most of the KuDamm area).
@sunny: Dorint directly adjacent to the prostitutes area? Don't think so - aren't they located more to the south.

I think prices go up generally this year because of more expensive gas and power.

We've had very satisfied friends and family at these mid-range places, all in Charlottenburg:

- Swissotel (seems much more impressive than it is, which is a must with the easily-impressed. Very clean, great service)
- Louisa's Place (more of a long-term apartment place, but they also do short-term. They take excellent care. Pool.)
- Lietzenburger Seehof (meh lobby & halls, very small rooms, but comfortable & with pool. Get a balcony or go elsewhere)

Hi. My family and I are wanting to go to Berlin during the summer, and want to stay over night. (we'd need 2 double rooms, one with an extra bed for my sister)

Can anyone suggest a decent hotel in Berlin that isn't too expensive and is close to the 'main attractions'. for example, something like a best western or a travellodge sort of place.

Thanks a bunch.
Kate

The Ibis has better prices and usually have parking too. http://www.ibishotels.com or http://www.accorhotels.com

This place is very nice and has a good reputation. Looks lovely when I walk past it at night too. It's not wildly expensive but more than the Ibis.

www.tripadvisor.com helps me a lot.

I also like www.booking.com for prices.

Depending on how much much you want to spend, and the experience you want, look for the hotel-pensions. They usually include breaky, are a little cheaper, and you get the oldstyle experience.

Is there anything out that thats el cheapo but not a hostel.?

Eg recommended guest rooms or somewhere that rents (cheaply) by the week.

if you don't need service: apartments from 48 euro per night per room: http://www.apartmentsapart.com/berlin_hotels/index.htm

... and if you are not, the Kudamm 101 rocks!

The Swissotel was fully booked this weekend because of an event at the hotel so I stayed at Ku'damm 101 based on recommendations from this thread.

Ku'damm 101 absolutely rocks. This designer hotel is a haven for bold and funky design. Their color scheme is pinks, cucumber, slate, and white. This hotel is ultramodern and very comfortable and the location is great.

What I appreciated the most with the customer service from their front desk staff. All of them were gregarious, pleasant, and extremely helpful. They aimed to please and even went beyond by giving me some great shopping tips as well.

I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay here again soon.
