Obtaining a tax number without paying taxes

Getting a German Steuernummer

Hello everyone. I'm currently employed here earning 2,000 Brutto a month (jealous??) and am trying to get my jewelry business set up on the side. I've already talked to the KVR, who directed me to the Finanzamt because they said that it is more a "freiberüfliche Tätigkeit" than it is a "Gewerbe" so I shouldn't have to get a business license. The lady I talked to at the Finanzamt knows my situation and sent me the form called "Fragebogen zur steuerlichen Erfassung."

Just wanted to see if someone could help me out with a few of the fields in this form, mostly my expected income- I already have a GuV, but that lists a pretty high expected income if added together with my current one.. how much should I list without having to pay preliminary taxes?

If you've filled one of these out successfully or know anything about this, I'd really appreciate help. My boyfriend's Steuerberater sent me a bill for €185 for a one-hour visit and I'm not really rich, so I thought I'd turn to my buddies at Toytown.

Thanks smile.gif

Bets is contact the resident TT lawyer Mr. Zitzelsberger. he helped me finish the paperwork for mine and I did not have to worry about a thing. He will finish all the paperwork for less than 100 euros. That is my experience and you will have your tax number.

The expected income and all that is just a projection and you can fill out whatever you want over there. The calculation is done at the end of the year, I think.

hmm... I literally only have 3 fields that I'm not sure about and I don`t really want to pay any money.. I'm pretty good with this kind of stuff, just don't know what to write down for the first form

I have my forms right here. Tell me what fields you are wondering about.

When filling this form out, keep your expected income as low as possible to avoid follow ups. €3-4,000 a year would seem reasonable for a startup. If you make (even much) more, then hey, you had a good sales technique and the business got off to a better start than you expected. They won't complain..

Do you go down to the same building (KVR) on Pocciastr. to obtain a Steuernummer? What should you bring to get it? Can you fill out the forms there and get the number issued to you?

I also need to know the same thing that spuzzum just asked...

Assuming you are entitled to work here, and will be employed (as opposed to self-employed) you need a Lohnsteuerkarte which will be provided with the number - if you live in Munich city you can apply online here. If you live outside of the city your local Rathaus will provide this...

Being self employed similar to sk8girl, need a Steuernummer as opposed to a Lohnsteuerkarte. Does anyone know where to get this and what is needed when going down to the office? Or is there a web page etc. Thanks

Then you need to apply directly to your responsible Finanzamt. In the first place you can simply call them and ask for the forms. There was a discussion about this, and the questions they asked in a response to a posting late last week...

You can also get the forms online, and further information from the central Finanzamt here
