Hi there,

Anyone know of any garages or car dealers who sell Camper Vans?

We are looking for a two adult two kid camper van such as a classic VW or other similar model with the Westphalia fittings etc. Any Toytowners know of such a shop or website?

Jeremy.

Hiya
if we were in the UK I could get you a deal as my brother-in-law runs a Bug Club biggrin.gif He currently has 3 buses, 2 beetles, a golf III and a fastback. That might have changed since I was last there though.
should get you in touch with your local club (I think that the nearest is in Nürnberg though, well, you are in BMW country) and I think they will be your best contact. Magazines like Volks World will list German dealers too (I had to help him with some tyres once). I don't know how much you want to spend and how much work you want to do on it, if you want an unfinished Westfalia you can get one from under 1500€, an average brice is about 4500€ for a good one but a top end show-worthy Split could well set you back 30 000€ (in fact I sat in one last August at my sister's wedding that later sold for that - I was chief bridesmaid and the wedding cars were all vintage VW).
Depends on what you want and how much you will do on it.
Can give you my brother-in-law's email address if you want though?

Hi there,

I am seeking advice from TTers who have owned camper vans.

We do not necessarily have to buy the typical VW camper. It could be any other brand such as Ford.

Our budget is in the 10,000 Euro region so we want a good one. It must sleep three (me wife+ child)

What fittings do people advise? Westphalia? California? Extras? Outside showers or toilets? I am somewhat clueless on this topic and need some info fast.

Thanks in advance.

Head out A8 towards Augsburg and there is a camper city on the left hand side. Check out all the varieties to give you a more comprehensive idea.

Jeremy,
you've done a thread on this topic before so he's the link before the Mods go looking for it.

Jeremy, with kids you might consider a caravan. If you have a good car, then you can leave it in camp and tool around easier and safe. They are also usually larger and cheaper.
I grew up in a VW camper bus. We got sideswiped somewhere in Oklahoma at a gas station and flipped. I was young and elastic, sister was bloodied up.

I travelled all over Scotland when a kid in a caravan. They are great fun but awful to tow. My last trips were when I was 18 and just got my driving license. Towing a caravan was no fun.

I must admit I like the image of the camper van thing too!

Hi!

Does anyone have any experience with camper vans, maintenence, reliability, practicality, tips etc. In particular with the VW T4 Westfalia. Currently toying with the idea of selling my car in exchange for one of these to do some touring this summer.

I'd love to hear some of your stories...

Thanks in advance

Hi, thinking of buying one myself and taking into account this new umweltzone in Munich soon. If I buy 1 that is younger than 30 years old, then I wont be able to drive it there (assuming it pumps out more noxious fumes, than a piss head after a night out). So will definitly will have to get it converted to meet the standards?

So when buying an old car, its best to go over the 30 years, making it a vintage car

QUOTE
Are vintage cars banned from the environmental zone altogether?
Vintage cars are vehicles that are at least 30 years old and have an "H" historic registration number or a red vintage car registration number plate. Due to a nation-wide exemption for such vehicles added as an amendment to the Marking Ordinance. Such vintage cars can freely move within the environment zone
No exemptions are foreseen inter alia for private driving in order to nurse family members, for guests in the environmental zone, owners of small gardens within the environmental zone, visitors of evening schools, private
transportation of children, shopping, diplomat cars or camper vans.

If that correct?
