Best place to buy a home theater / HiFi setup?

I'm looking for 5.1 home theater sound system with optical input. Can anyone suggest a decent place to buy such a setup? Saturn, Kardstadt, etc. all have them but I'd prefer to go to a dedicated electronics store (or preferably HiFi store). I'm looking to keep it under 1000 Euros for a whole setup but for a nice one I'll go higher.

I remember seeing a hifi shop in Wörthstrasse. Don't know if it's any good though...

There are a couple of good dedicated places close to your new apt. There is one on the corner of Augustenstr. and Schellingstr. and another place further up Schellingstr. towards the big church at the end on the right hand side. Both good.

Make sure you get them to do a price match. When I bought mine I printed the prices for the equipment I wanted off www.guenstiger.de, took them to an electronics shop and asked them to match the price - they did. So its worth a try and might get more value for your money.

If mail order is an option, you might want to check out www.hirsch-ille.de. That's where I got mine.

Check www.electronica24.de if that would be an option or at least get the prices matched like DevilsAlternative said.

Not sure about getting prices matched… after finally finding a turntable reasonable to my requirements last week I took out my mobile and showed the sales dude at Karstadt (Neuhauser Str.) that they were selling the same thing in Lübeck 30% cheaper. The dude said great! So why don't you drive up there and get it. You wanna buy it here, you'll need to pay the price that’s tagged sad.gif

Well, I wouldn't expect him to match a price from the other side of the country except maybe if they delivered. Bit unreasonable expecting otherwise, Lübeck is hardly competition for Munich shops.

The place on Wörthstrasse is HiFi Concept . It's pretty good, more high end but they stock Brit labels. It's worth visiting if not to test some systems out.

This is good for prices:

http://www.hificomponents.de/Oberanger/pre...e_oberanger.htm is worth a look. I used to use them as a price comparison site. I bought my DVD player from them (in Munich) and save €100 on the Saturn price. They don't take credit cards (to keep costs down I guess), but would be worthwhile checking out. And if it helps one of the guys speaks English too.

I was told that if you can find what you want in Saturn, that they do a price-comparing thing, but not from internet shops, only from other physical shops. Saturn is on Schillerstrasse I believe, or maybe Schwanthalerstrasse. It's 2 mins walk from my office but I don't have a clue..

S Bahn Hackerbruecke, or a walk from Hauptbahnhof.

Hope this helps.
