Munich Fancy Dress Hire? For Fasching / Carnival

For my first Fasching, I have been invited to Cologne to some fancy dress function..

The dress theme is : Venetian Mask with the dress to go with it (like how they dress for Carnival in Venice every year)

I need to find an upscale fancy dress hire place in Munich to get the kit- I think it has to be upscale to get that kind of outfit (slightly more formal than dressing as Austin Powers with fake teeth or Xena warrior princess)

Do you know of a place? Would you happen to know if they take Amex by any chance??

Thanks,
Vanessa

You can still probably buy something cheap rather than going whole hog and renting a really expensive outfit. I bought a dress similar to what you want for 40 Euros a couple of years ago. I've also looked at renting things, and seem to recall them being the same price. Okay, the costumes were more elaborate, but it's for a party, not your wedding. Don't have the names of any places, sorry, it was years ago that I looked.

You can find the period-style dresses in the likes of Hertie & Karstadt. As Showem said, it's for a party (however upscale) and would probably do the trick. For example, I've definitely seen them in upstairs Hertie at Hauptbahnhof.

the only problem is that I failed to mention its a ball- does the term 'ball' here mean the same for the germans as it does for us- (something v. formal) -they seem to have a lot of balls here and I cant imagine all of them are so serious...

It is in Cologne so will start off quite posh and then go mental.

There will be a sit-down meal and then dancing but being Cologne you will probably have to do a polonaise (conga), act närrisch (like a court jester) and drink a lot. Try watching something like RTL's Kölle Alaaf! (Kölle Alaaf! being the main cry to celebrate carnival, bit like Munich's Prosit really. In Düsseldorf and Mainz you say Helau! Do not say Kölle Alaaf in either or these two places as it is like going to work at adidas dressed in Nike) to get the idea.

Inventive is better than expensive at these things and Karstadt/Hertie should more than cover it. Should you want to hire (and you have really left it late) try...

A dress like this one will cost around 120€ to hire...

I used to work in Köln years ago, it is a great city and you'll have a great time.

Hmmm...I´m heading to Köln this weekend ohne a fancy party invite, but nontheless wondered where I might procure a Monk´s robe - big brown vestment, hood - for a costume...any ideas?

Become a Monk

Failing that, get yourself around to the Halloween Gore Store at Müllerstr 54 and they should be able to sort out all your monastic issues.
