Hello friends,

This is Faith. I am an expat Medical student living and studying in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. I am originally from Pakistan but have lived all my life here. I am in my final year at Medical school and should be through with my final exams at the end of this year. After my exams, I am required to work (Internship) for a year before I am handed my degree. I have a question, if that's alright.

I was wondering if it's possible for Medical students to take up medical internship in Germany for upto a year. If yes, how do I go about it? What kind of a visa do I need to apply for? Also, should I apply individually to the hospitals or to a general Medical body like perhapy your Ministry of Health?

I'd be so grateful if someone could answer my querries. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

There is a Glut of Jnr Doctors here in Germany, you would have to apply to each hospital to find a place, I know folks who have been searching for a year for a unpaid place as a Guest Artz.

My suggestion is to try another country.

Hello there Faith,
I'm a medical student myself, finished my course last Sept. I currently live in Dubai. If you're from Dubai Medical College, or Al Ain medical college or more infamously from Gulf Medical College, then your collge should provide you with the information and guide you thru the procedures because they are affliated to the German Hospitals and undertake students who wish to do their summer training and/ or internship in germany.

Take it from me, because I've met the german Prof who deals with bringing in students from the 3 colleges to germany and they are supposed to tell you what to do. Just make sure you're willing to cough up the dough for the 'admistrative work' as well as the 'processing'. And if you're from GMC, believe me, they'd rip you off like always. :-)

Good Luck.
