Does anyone know of an affordable tailor near Marienplatz or Isartor? I need to get a few pairs of pants hemmed. I'd rather not pay more than 7 Euros per each pair.
Showem
If you just bought them, often the place where you got them (Kaufhof and Kardstadt included) will do reasonably priced hemming. Otherwise, the only ones I know are in Schwabing.
michnic
Take a closer look at the place where you take your clothes to be dry cleaned. If there's a curtain in the corner (for changing), there's probably a sewing machine in the back and you can have your pants hemmed there.

Otherwise, walk around your neighborhood and look in the windows of other dry cleaning shops (Reinigung), or look for anything that says Schneiderei, Anderungservice or Anderungsdienst.

Prolly not cheap in Marienplatz. sad.gif

Showem is spot-on (as ever!) - Karstadt/Hertie do alterations as does Esprit. You will usually see a sign up in the fitting room. 7-11€ is the usual rate (11€ is for jeans where the hem is removed, the length shortened and the orginal hem resewn or where turn-ups are involved).
I only use one in Neuhausen (and as she is so cheap and so good, I'm not giving that number to anyone!).

Keydeck
A bit mean to mention it Katrina if you're not going to share the info. Rather say nothing at all than let people believe you have a fantastic service which they can't avail of because you're keeping it secret.

There's an alterations place on Baderstr. If you walk from Isartor it'll be on the left hand side.
Elfenstar
spot on keydeck. i wandered around my neighborhood and streets beyond to find someone to hem my pants. at 5'5", all german pants are always too long, sadly the clohtes here are not cut for my ethnic curves either. found a greek woman on ungererstr. (after finally scouring the phone book and making 5 calls) she charged me €10 each to do a job to 3 new pairs of jeans. my only comfort is that i bought the jeans whilst back home in the u.s. and each were 50% off, otherwise i would be steaming mad! i'm thankful they aren't too short! and what she did to bring in the waist is embarassing!

if anyone out there has a realiable seamstress or tailor, I'll pay you for that information or invite you for a beer or two. a good seamstress is worth more than a good doctor!

from my side, if you're in search of one in esslingen, go to melita's änderungschneideri in the untermetzergerbachstr. she is a one woman show, terribly friendly and price-worthy. never had a complaint and went to her for 4 years.

i highly recommend the following:

there is an old-gent's clothes shop on Görresstr at the junction of Zentnerstr, the guy there is a wizard with poorly fitting jeans and cords... he made alterations on some jeans for me for 3 euros

and there is also a little lady on Gabelsbergerstr near the corner of Schließheimer... also very good service, but a little bit more expensive and not in the authentic gentlemen's tailor (suits you sir) style wink.gif

i think this type of thing is great... i don't think such shops exist in ireland anymore...
Vanessa
I need some alterations made to a dress before Friday. Does anyone know a tailors that is good with women's clothing, near Leopoldstrasse, not too expensive, and pretty quick?

Thanks
Vanessa

I know I could look in Google or Gelbe Seiten, but can anyone personally recommend a tailor for hemming trousers in the centre of town i.e. along the SBahn Stammstrecke from HBF to Isartor..?
I'm looking for a good tailor who won't ruin my new trousers (of course the cheaper the better, but quality is more important this time). The trousers weren't from a department store like Hertie so I can't take them there. Thanks!
Slartibartfast
Coming from Isator take the Rumford Str almost to the Reichenbach Platz. There is a shop on the left hand that does alterations at reasonable prices. If you get to Rossmans youv'e gone to far.

We take our stuff to a guy who has a little shop on the south side of Guldeinstr between Trappentreustr and Astallerstr. Close to Tram 18 & 19 (Trappentreu- or Barthstr stops), Donnersbergerbrücke or Heimeranplatz. Bus 53 and 133 Trappentreustr stop work as well. Least he has charged me for an alteration was €3, and nothing has ever been above €20. Drop the stuff off, go enjoy some good food in the Astaller restuarant on the corner, and he should be finished by your return.
UrbanAngel
Thanks - unfortunately I already went (straight after work - didn't see these answers). Went to an Aenderungsschneiderei on Reichenbachstr, Fraunhoferstr end, near Pomeroy & Winterbottom. Will let you know how it goes! He charged EUR 15 and it'll take a week sad.gif
Elfenstar
i've started going to the one in my neighborhood. it's called Maria's Änderungsscheiderei and it's about 20 m away from the Harras U-Bahn (next to a thai restaurant and hotel).

her office is tiny & chaotic & i think she's greek but fair & friendly. she has 2 gents doing tailoring too (maybe husband & brother). i got my jeans shortened, done "original" style and paid €12. i had some cargo pants shortened, cost me €6,50. unfortunately she's not open on sat's anymore, but until 7 p.m. M-F.
Katrina
This afternoon I'm going to see the tailors at Dress Munich about some suit alterations. Looking at the type of things they do, they might not be cheap but the quality might be there. Will report back, the image presentation on the website is very charming at least!

I wouldn't recommend this place so am looking for another tailors myself smile.gif
Katrina
Was personally very happy with Dress Munich and will go back.
HellesAngel
Dunno if they do repairs but for getting a suit or shirt tailored Kuhn are pretty good. There's a few around Munich, search for them.
bidul
Anyone? Please! It's 0'C today, I'm freezing ohmy.gif I've read a similar topic/thread on this forum but they talk only about shortening/lengthening of trousers. Will they fix my coat there?

Thnx
Renia
I think any tailor will do it for you...don't know how long it will take and how much it will cost though... start walking around the shops and ask. In my district (Isarvorstadt) there are quite a few tailors.
Keydeck
Where are you located? I know a tailor in Westend who would do it for a reasonable price. Thing is 'cheap' is relative.

I presume you somehow missed HellesAngel's response when you typed your "Anyone? Please!".
bidul
I live in Laimer Platz, it's 2 U-bahn stops from Westendstrasse. Keydeck- could you please give me the name of the company/ person?
Keydeck
Dunno the name of the place, but it's on Gollierstr between Ligsalzstr and Parkstr. Closest u-banana is SchwanthalerHöhe. Just a little shop run by an elderly couple doing clothing repairs and whatnot.
bidul
Thanks a lot! rolleyes.gif

OK, I was not completely sure how to title this, but basically one of the legs on my suit, the stitching has come undone, so the hem has fallen down. In England you just go into Sketchley and they would fix it, is there anywhere in Munich (preferably city centre) where they will also do this ?

My immediate thought was Hirmer in the pedestrian precinct, but they might only do ones you bought from them. Probably best off at an Änderungsschneiderei.
pepper
@ Guy, I also thought about Himer, but like you, I think they only do this if you buy them there. Will try one of these places on Änderungsschneiderei, Thanks !
BadDoggie
There's a small seamstress shop on Bergmannstr. between the Post and the Turkish store on the corner, about a block and a half up from Ridlerstr. The woman does incredible work, quick and cheap. For items she can't handle for whatever reason (like the huge gash in my suit leg) she'll send you to some other specialist woman in the area (forget where she is).

woof.

I can't tell you anything about prices, but I know that the alteration service at Konen, Sendlinger Str. 3, does (or at least used to) alter & repair clothes that weren't bought there.
kitkat64
OK, I need something repaired and it's a bit more than hemming pants or taking in a suit.
I have my favorite winter coat that I absolutely cannot part with (and, unbelievably, still looks great after 6 years). But, the inside lining is totall shredded and I need it replaced. The woman at our local dry cleaners said it would cost around 100€ so I would like to know if this seems excessive to you guys or not. It's a normal coat, length is just above the knees.
Tom34
Do they supply the new lining as well?
If it is a nice coat then new lining will be expensive.
That could be the price...I live in Trudering...if it's close enough to where you stay, bring it around and I'll have a look.

I can thoroughly recommend Schneiderei Brenner in the Pestalozzistrasse 11, just behind Sendlinger Tor. They've done a few things for me (altering a ski jacket, repairing a torn arm on another jacket, shortening trousers) and I've been impressed by the friendliness, prices and - above all - the quality of the work. They also speak a certain amount of English.

Regarding prices:

I bought a suit from Karstadt (Karlplatz/Stachus) at the end of Dec. 2006. I had the alternations done just to the pants - shortened and cuffed, the waist taken out a bit. I picked it up in 1 week and paid EUR 17.00. The quality is top as well. I don't think you necessarily have to purchase the clothes from there either.

Hope this helps.

A word of warning - this shop has closed down. I walked up and down the road last night but didn't see it anywhere!

can anyone recommend a "Schneiderei" to get adjustments? I live near Harras and had a look around but couldn't find anything. Also, has anyone else also noticed that the Germans are wider at the hips and butt? My colleague also has to get trousers from Italian designers.

blink.gif erm... no.

I know of a seamstress in Ottobrunn who is reasonably priced and very helpful and quick. She also speaks English. I can get her contact information if anyone's interested.
Kay
The closest one to Harras that I know is on Lindwurmstrasse, on the left-hand side of the street when you are going down to Poccistrasse.
UrbanAngel
I've used Jayhay's recommendation (Pestalozzistr, Sendlinger Tor) twice now and am very happy. Costs EUR12 per trousers though, but still cheaper than the first place I tried.
kym
Does anyone know of a good English speaking tailor to alter some pants? Oh, and not that expensive either?

Thanks,
Kym

Y-fronts or boxers?
kym
i'm not sure what y-fronts are, but maybe trousers is the better word? boxers, no. that is if we are talking about the same thing.
kym
i want to let everyone know that i found a great person to do the alterations on the trousers. so, if you ever need something like this or something requiring more complicated work, i totally recommend Benita or Tom34. she was really fast and they look fantastic! thank you Benita!

I bought some pants/trousers a few weeks ago at Ludwig Beck; have worn and washed them a couple times and have decided I need to have them shortened. Anyone know if I can take them back to Ludwig Beck to have it done? If not, any recommended tailors in Maxvorstadt/Schwabing? TIA.
NJDQ
I know this is an old thread, but I can't find any other info on TT, can anyone recommend a tailor / seamstress, just simple stuff like rehemming jeans etc in the Lehel area, if possible ?

Thanks tongue.gif

An update : I found a wonderful little man in Lehel / Isartor (just at Thierschstr and Obermaierstr) who fixed my favourite denim skirt and put a hem on my new jeans, I think I must be shrinking as I get older !! laugh.gif Excellent workmanship and not as expensive as I thought (10 Euros for the new zip & 16 Euros for the rehemming). Just wanted to share it with you ! Very happy !! biggrin.gif
Gela
I know two places in the center, but never tried myself.
One is MultiService Center (Schuhreparaturen, Aendurungen...) on Isartor
Frauenstr.,32
and the other one is Schneiderei near Marienplatz
Damenstiftstr.,6
