Hi! Any tips as to where is good for jogging in and around Munich?
jeremy
Don't know where you live but if you live in the vicinity of Schloss Nymphenburg a good run is the whole cicuit round the park. If you are not so fit half that is good.

Munich has many good running areas (not only for advanced but for beginners also)..

1) Englischer Garden ...anywhere...Beside the canal near Unterfohring is perfect for running. Since that covered bridge burned down, I haven't run here much.
2) Along Isar near Thalkirchen (and on island). You can run all the way to Grunwald. You can even start near Deutsches Museum and run to Thalkirchen.
3) Along Nymphenburg canal in front of schloss and in park behind. There is a circuit right inside the park walls which is perfect. Take the long way around.
4) Ostpark is good...Some nice hills.
5) The park of Schloss Schleissheim... I used to live in Oberschleissheim and this place is also perfect. You can also run through the forest to Unterschliessheim.
6) Dowtown route (Neuhauser/Leopoldstr/Schelling/Augustenstrasse) is a good quick run.
7) Olympiapark. ..is a nice evening circuit because it's lite well. The 'berg' also adds some difficulty.
8) For Beginners.. .The Old cemetery near Josephsplatz U-Bahn is good. The place is full of joggers...all the time. Once around on the inside is probably 400m.

My favorite runs are along the Isar. (Easy for me to say because I live by it cool.gif ) Basically any part of the stretch between the Isarring and Grünwald. This gives you plenty of terrain which varies between city park walkways to longer streches with a bit of up&down to them as well. In the city, for example around the Friedensengel, you can also take detours which will give you a wee bit of hill running within the city as well.

Anyone know any place north of Munich to have a nice run? I live in Neufahrn and have been running through the fields here, but the stones are so big that I have to pay attention not to trip and fall.

Thanks!

Try along the Isar up that way toward Freising, nice bike trails can also be used for running. Or drive/Sbahn back towards the city and around Oberschliessheim, not as stoney.
On the other side of the Isar from Neufahrn is Ismaning- nice area again along the Isar.

Thanks Carm! I will try the route to Freising.

Yep. Between Garching and Freising on the east side Isar trail, it's great for running. I was just up there last week for a bike ride. Pretty constant level, no hills, no hard pavement (so it's easy on the knees) and not many people.

Somebody how long (in Km) is the circuit in Schloss Nymphenburg?
thanks,
Adolfo.

No, but if you go to www.gmap-pedometer.com, it should be easy enough to figure out.
jeremy
Please send me that info! Used to like a jog round there when I had time and no kids!

God I miss jogging...

Words you will never hear from Jenny L.

But I know along the Isar in Ismaning is beautiful and they also have some paths.
