Every year the busy crowded space of the Oktoberfest leads to an explosive outbreak in headcolds and flu.
So who here is suffering? I know a few are. Including myself. Please send grapes, chocolate, and messages of sympathy to the usual address.
Unfortunately it seems like this one takes a while to clear up. Like a full week. Which is a bit of a pain and an interuption to the number of Wies'n visits which can be made.
See also the TT search for
flu remedies.

I have it. Felt shit on Sunday last week but put that down to the fest and a late night on Saturday. Monday was just a sore throat, Tuesday was that and feeling weak. Weds & Thus was the above plus fevers and couldn't go to work. Went back to work Friday which may have been a mistake as I was fucked again by the end of it.
Its now, 7 days later, mostly just the sore throat remaining but just went and did the groceries and I feel like I need to sleep again for the rest of the day. Haven't been THAT congested/runny nosed.. yet.
I just hope I recover enough for tomorrow as I have a pre-paid fest trip :-(
Is everyone getting the same/similar symptoms? I know people at work are starting to get the sore throats.

I had it only from Sun-Weds but it was more a stomach (my body rejected food of any kind). and achy bones thing. Now I am just trying to avoid getting it full-blown since Tom is spreading it around the house...

Oh - pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssse don't die...what a loss that would be!
Gute Besserung to all of you. This might sound absolutely disgusting but it works - next time you feel a cold coming go to the chemists and buy a so-called 'Nasendusche' (can't even think of the English translation, shudder) and the special salt that goes with it. You'll feel fine pretty quickly.
Managed to get through this Wiesn Season without - thanks to my torturing Nasendusche.

I believe the illiness comes from all the "sharing of germs" that goes on at Oktoberfest. I'd make a link, but the threads of hooking up at Ofest are endless.
My other half has gotten sick this year at ofest while I am over 3500 miles away...What do you think?

Me & my 2 houseguests from the heimat are totally sick - we're going through the Tempos at a crazy rate. Sore throats, runny noses, everything. In return we got to sit at a table in the Augustiner tent and drink beer at 9AM.

Spaten is just the worst news. Period. I think, apart from getting a cold, Spaten will give you just about any other disease or illness known to mane. Ugh.

I think the cold and dry weather just before the fest also contributed, I've noticed lots of people on the S-bahn suffereing. I got a mild case that hit my inner ears a bit, which has slowed me down by not stopped me!

my throat hurts. i'm trying to go defensive route. toked up on echinicea and zinc before going to the o'fest, used copious amounts of anti/bacterial hand gel, hit the juice bars immediately after. tried to get peeps to go for defensive hot ass curry as well but got no takers. damn drunkards.
i'm going to keep hitting the oj, echinicea and zinc. hopefully that will keep me outta bed.

My first visit to Wiesn this year was on wednesday, and friday I was really thirsty and freezing cold and realised on my way home from work that I have a cold. Feeling strangely light-headed at the moment, but I refuse to give into it. It's my last week at work so I and I am also missing the first week of my German course so I think it would be a bit suspiscious if I was off sick. When it's necessary for me to be feeling more human (for example, further Wiesn trips), I am taking Sudafed and paracetamol in advance. I reckon I must have caught my cold somewhere else though, doesn't it take longer than 2 days for a cold to incubate?

Interesting facts about
catching a cold
Well...not sure how interesting they are if you actually feel crappy like. Then they are just glaringly annoying facts. Like the one about avoiding crowded places...
clairesuz
26.Sep.2005 14:27 hrs
Yes, interesting facts. I knew about being careful about rubbing your eyes etc. (particularly if you have to hold a hand rail on the S-bahn that hundreds of other people have held throughout the day, yuck). I was wondering how long after you actually have had contact with the virus, that you start to display symptoms. I guess it's different for different viruses.

Incubation Period for a Cold
A bit science-y but shows that the incubation period is very short...which does mean that you can wake up with it (as people sometimes say).

How are you feeling today, jml?
It got me too Started with a sore throat last night, and this morning my whole body aches and feels heavy, it hurts to swallow and talk, and have a constant headache. My nose felt blocked but now it feels a bit better and I haven't started sneezing (yet).
Stayed off work so as not to spread it around the office, although I think that's where it originated anyway

I have never been anywhere near the Oktoberfest in my life, but have had a cold since last friday. I have no idea about zinc or echinieaeeae stuff, but weißbier seems to help for me. If you are gonna wake up aching and with a sore head anyway, why not get battered the night before I say.
Stayed off work so as not to spread it around the office

I been doing pretty well at fighting it off, lots of vitamin c, zinc etc. and good behaviour. I even opted for a warm bath and pjs last night instead of my first choice of hitting the TT Tuesday Drinks. Woke up this morning anyhoo with big fat kopf schmerz that will NOT go away, my usual precursor to nasty cold.
Should've gone out instead, rat bastards. I sir, am a wanker.

got my 3 reserved visits in and then came down with bastard, body-aching, full-blown flu on saturday.
solution - grippostad anti-flu capsules and hot whisky drinkies.
1. hot whisky mac. 2 shots whisky, 2 shots green ginger wine, 3-4 shots hot water. stir, drink, sleeeeeep...
2. milky, milky. a generous glug of whisky, a large teaspoon of honey, fill up with hot milk. stir until blended, drink, sleeeeeep...
anyone with any other whisky based remedies, please post here!
