Garmisch casino

Anyone been? What's it like?

Not sure if Going out is really the appropriate category for the casino in Garmisch, but as you can take a shuttle bus from Munich to the casino and back, maybe it fits.

Has anyone been? What's it like? Fun, boring, middling? Big spenders or can you go and spend a couple of Euros without being stared at like you are filthy poor? Any James Bond-like characters?
Jimbo
I can only imagine it's bloody awful - I base that on nothing other than my imagination, but every casino I've ever been to has always been a disappointment and nowhere near as flash as you might imagine, with the possible exception of the one in Ibiza Town which is only marginally tacky.

I presume the on in Garmisch took off thanks to the U.S. forces round there though?
Johnny English
I think Casinos are miserable places frankly. Full of losers...err...losing.
Showem
Well thanks for the informed opinions. happy.gif The one in Monaco was pretty nice, but I don't expect Garmisch to compare exactly. To your question Jimbo, all the casinos in Bavaria are in resort-like towns: Bad Füssing, Bad Kissingen, Bad Reichenhall, Bad Steben, Bad Bad Leroy Brown, etc.
Katrina
The Reichenhall one is full of old biddies on Kur. They don't let locals in because they think they will go bonkers in a Sharon Stone-like frenzy of cocaine and gambling.
In Bad Reichenhall.
Hmmm
Anyway, usually they ask if you have a Kur ticket or where you live.
Hey, we could get pootle to sign us in! smile.gif

I imagine it is not a very large casino, being where it is. Nothing compares to Vegas, but what can? I would only go there if you are interested in playing the tables. Slots would be an entirely waste of time. I'd be interested to find out what the low and high limits are on the tables in Garmisch. If you can play 5 Euros a hand, then it is not too bad if you control your spending.
Jimbo
Munich does have a casino though, doesn't it? I'm sure I googled it ages and ages ago when I had a mate visiting - either way I never went.
Jeeves
Went to the one in Bad En Bad En wink.gif ID was necessary but no Kur ticket. A great evening was had by all. I can't remember what the minimum bets were but they were well affordable.
Jimbo
I play in London from time to time, and usually a Blackjack minimum bet is £5, and you won't be looked at strangely if you only play for a fiver...roulette is usually £1, but of course you tend to put at least 4 or 5 chips down, often more, for every spin. In Ibiza the minimums were roughly equivalent, in Euros of course, to London, but there were far more big spenders - I saw some prat put down nigh on €3,000 on one spin of the roulette wheel - he lost the lot. He won on the next spin mind you and so made most of it back...
grazzenger
you should head just over the border into the czech republic. now those are some tacky casinos with 'ladies' on tap all round about. went there for a stag weekend recently and the highlight of the trip was getting completely mullered on the train journey there.
canuck
If you want to know anything aboot casinos (in Bayern) talk with Hahnsen. I think she's actually in Las Vegas right now though?? smile.gif
Showem
Grazzenger, as tempting as that sounds, I think I'll pass on that.

The one in Bad Wiessee just opend this year. I haven't been there, but it is said to be nice. They expect one to dress up.

Isn't there some law in Germany (surprise surprise) that you cannot gamble in a casino within 50km of your home town. That would explain why the locals were not allowed into the one in Bad Reichenhall.
newfoundlander
Does anyone know the deal with this law now?

They had similar stuff in France, along the same lines of "Casinos are only allowed where there are natural hotsprings"... but I thought the "no locals" rules were knocked on the head a while back.

(If they still apply then someone's looking the other way in Baden Baden, that's for sure wink.gif )
BadDoggie
Are there any casinos here with craps?

Slots are stupid; just give your money to the casino and save yoursef the carpal tunnel syndrome.

Roulette is pretty ass (though better odds without the 00). I have a system which minimises losses while allowing smal gains. In testing it myself and automatically on a long-term simulation, I found out I'd make more money mowing people's lawns without having to juggle a lot of numbers in my head.

Baccarat is piss-poor odds, only slightly better than the slots.

Blackjack is OK but they're quick to ban anyone they think might be counting, and you also need other things to do when a table goes cold.

In craps you can make some serious bloody money quickly.

woof.
Hazza
If you want to gamble in your home town, couldn't you just show your foreign passport and pretend you're on holiday to gain entry?
canuck
@BadDoggie: Anybody that's any good counts cards in BJ. Counting is part of the game.

I drove by the one in Bad Wiessee and it looks posh. Tempting...hmmmm...
brokenm
and there are very simple counting methods
kit
It's called Spielbank,

I walked by it several times b/f realizing it wasn't actually a "bank." dry.gif

My roulette system sounds like it's probably the same as BD's. I used to go to Garmisch regular. Never lost using this system but sometimes, after 8 hours of playing, only broke even. Watch out for people trying to claim your winning bet was theirs. Happened to me twice at Garmisch and luckily the croupier spotted it once.

I thought that was the whole point of having different coloured chips? blink.gif
Clyde_Banks
Knew someone would come up with that. Sure you can get different colours but that's not always the case. Dunno how many different ones you can get in a casino but obviously not enough to go round from my experience.

I'm very predictable. Can read me like a book smile.gif
