Spooks - TV series on BBC1

A quality show

Schotte
Spooks has to be the most quality series every produced by the BBC. im totally hooked and have seen every epsiode since whenever it started. who else is watching it?

Owain Glyndwr
me. also hooked. although i stupidly missed the first two episodes of series 4.

i am currently trying to "obtain" them.
Schotte
is this series 4 at the moment then?

i watched the first 2 episodes of this current series last night. absolute genius. ive never seen anything this well written before.

i like the way even a series like this can still take the piss out of the Americans
Jimbo
You been watching 'Lost' Schotte? I've never seen Spooks, but the adverts when it first came out put me off - looked a bit 'mickey mouse' M.I.5 to me and not very realistic - p'raps I should try it...
Schotte
i only saw the first 2 episodes of Lost but will probably watch it next time its on. Spooks gets rave reviews in the papers Jimbo you cant go on missing it. Its def not mickey mouse!! even the good guys are known to snuff it in this show.

really, its on thursday this week, dont miss it!
3 Lions
I have only ever seen the 1st series of Spooks, DEFINITELY worth watching.

Might have to try and obtain them myself.
Owain Glyndwr
i was actually talking to Tom about this show at Wiesn on saturday and convinced him (Ithink) to get hold of it. Well worth watching from series one.
Tom17
Yep, I have somehow managed to aquire the first episode so am gonna give it a go
pootle
I've got seasons 1 & 2 at home on DVD. Excellent viewing, will be getting other DVD's when they become available.
Schotte
another top quality episode tonight. brilliant stuff.

Hustle is also coming back to BBC soon, that should be a belter if you like spooks.
Foxy
We watched Spooks for the first time last night and I really enjoyed it. Beats all the other crap thats on tv, 'sept for Lost which is fab. Is this really series 4? I've missed loads if thats the case...take it I'm right in assuming that the lovely looking chap is married to the other Mi5 lass?

Jimbo wasnt so impressed - He was converted a wee bit towards the end though I think...something about it not being realistic enough for him...doesnt get much more real than terrorist attacks on the houses of parliament! I'ts quite ironic that he finds Spooks not very realistic by loves Lost...mmmm...Jurassic Park!

yep, Hustle is also a great show from the Beeb! Also well worth getting hold of.
Jimbo
It wasn't very good - totally unrealistic - I mean, please, GPS transponders hidden in magnetic Zippos? Far too James Bond, and nowhere near what I imagine real MI5 bods get up to... Also far too much 'That's right - it's a Cat. I terrorist alert - inform the PM' type of stuff. Utter bollocks. If I'm going to suspend my disbelief I'm more than happy to do it for complete fiction like 'Lost', but 'Spooks' tries far too hard to be believable.
Owain Glyndwr
so I take it you work for MI5, then Jimbo? Cos only if you do, can you judge what is realistic or not, oder?

The Beeb often gets inside sources to help on their scripts. Classic case was Red Caps. Great series filmed with help from the MOD and especially from the RMP in Chichester and Germany.
Jimbo
Well, I've been interviewed for a job with MI5 and I do know a little bit about terrorists and counter terrorism, and Spooks is nothing at all like how it works - I mean, if MI5 was like that, explain why that poor bastard got shot on the tube? MI5 work is just like Police work only you don't wear a uniform and you don't have to work to quite as many rules - it most certainly does not however include entrapment, blackmail, dodgy Arabic accents and helicopters that seem able to hover within 100m of a target without being heard. You can't surely think it's like that? Or do actually believe that MI6 have invisble Aston Martins and watches with lasers built in?
Schotte
finally today's episode introduced a hottie to the series.

Jimbo
Agreed - I thought last night's episode was much better, and far easier on the eye.
Owain Glyndwr
haven't watched it yet. Sitting safely on my hard drive till i ge a chance at the weekend. 'bout time they had a few more lookers in the series though.

Oddly enough, my Dad works for the company which has grown out of the old DERA... and he's a lot to do with the bit that makes such things. At the moment the GPS + vodaphone transmitter is about half the size of a pack of cards (I played with one at the weekend) but they are planning to make it *much* smaller. It has some clever ujumaflop technology thing that gives much better receiving than a standard GPS too. I didn't see spooks, but certainly the kit I saw wouldn't have to shrink that much to fit in a zippo (and that version is the unclassified, commercial one - who knows what the other stuff is like!)
Jimbo
True enough - I'm sure it could be done - but the way it was done - totally James Bond - using something that emits a signal is a risky business anyway is it could be found. You'd have to watch it to see what I mean, but last week's felt like a low rent James Bond to me.

Its always been easy on the eye...

tonight's episode was once against absolutely mint. i didnt have a notion what was going on till pretty near the end though.

the hot bird recruit is still well fit.

dont want to say anymore in case you are still to see it but im totally impressed with this still.

anyone know how much longer this has to run for the current series?

I watched the first two seasons in the US, where it's called "MI-5" which sounds better than "Spooks" to me. Yeah, yeah I know they call themselves "spooks."

First two seasons are some of the best TV I've ever seen. I wish more American tv was this gritty. I was disappointed, however, in how season 3 turned out but I won't ruin for the Spooks-neophytes out there who are just getting started!
Schotte
cool i didnt know it was showing abroad also.

i think one of the best bits about it is anything will actually happen. they havent even started making mission impossible 3 yet (or maybe they have?) but you know already that all the good guys will survive! not the case in this show which makes it more "realistic"

some of the gadgets are cool as too. and the accents are significantly better
Owain Glyndwr
I am just catching up on some TV that I have had on my Sky+ HDD for a while now. I just watched two episodes of Spooks. In the first one the Israeli Mossad set up a plan to make it look like muslims killing muslims. In the second, a group of fundy christians in Britain start killing muslims in suicide attacks.

This show rocks!
pootle
I've been really enjoying the current series. But members of MI5 are coming and going so quickly...

If you did a comparision of cast members in series one and series 4, I reckon there are only 2 left - Harry & Malcom...
pootle
Serious 6 starts on 16th October... Get your skyplus set!

P
Owain Glyndwr
thanks for the heads up!
JOB
Does anyone one have season 4 & 5? Me and the misses need a severe catch up before Tues.
hams
Watching them at the moment but unfortunately won't be done til Tuesday. Will also have to wait for new series to come out on DVD as no longer a proud Sky owner...
pootle
Anyone else see the first episode??

Bit of a strange way to start it all...
Jimbo
Stange way? More like a totally shite way. From what I've read the whole series is going to be carping on about the situation in Iran. And what were those things smaller than grains of sand that transmit a signal? WTF? I'm fast losing faith in the show tbh.
pootle
Anyone see the start of Spooks : Code9 tonight?
Schotte
i just watched it earlire on i player. bit of a cross between spooks and spy kids. not overly impressed. when is the next proper spooks hitting the screens?
Owain Glyndwr
September
Schotte
...has been and gone, no sign, or?
Schotte

Reminder that it starts tonight on BBC 1.
pootle
Must remember to set sky box... saw the trailer last night. This season looks all to be about the russians - very topical atm

So i'm going to watch Spooks tonight, can someone explain (because i'm too lazy to look on the BBC website) whether this episode follows on from a previous one? Is it a new series? A general rundown would be appreciated, (but no spoilers please).
Schotte

sorry that info is prob too late though...

no doubt all will be available on bbc iplayer, although i dont know if you get that outside the UK.
