Couldn't find the original thread relating to the influx of Eastern European nationals to Munich when the extra states are admitted to the EU. Just read this and thought it was interesting. Does anyone know when Germany will actually allow them access...

---------

THE Czech Republic is threatening legal action to force EU countries to copy Ireland in opening their doors to Czech workers once the country joins the EU in May.

Ireland and Britain are the only EU nations to grant living and working rights to the people of the 10 countries joining the EU.

All other EU countries have set a period of up to seven years before people from countries such as the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia can come to work in their countries.

Jan Kohout, Czech deputy foreign minister, said. Prague would monitor the measures taken by the current member countries and that if it determined those measures violated conditions set by the EU accession treaty and discriminated against Czech citizens, it would turn to the European Court of Justice.

Ten new states, mostly from the former eastern bloc, are to join the EU on May 1.

Ireland has said it will open its labour market to all comers from the new member states as of May 1.

Germany & Austria have said no one for 8 years.

Think Denmark have said OK, but if they do not find work after 6 months they must leave, and Britain is also having a rethink on the benefits for new EU member states.

probably not a bad idea anyway as it's the number one destination.
making them legal means at least they will pay taxes which is something.
