http://www.frauenlauf-muenchen.de/ Just wanting to know if anyone is doing this walk this year, and can you bring the kids with you (a 4 year and baby) thanks
Carm
Am planning on doing it, but I have no kids, was going to attempt the 5k run.

If I am up anyway then I will probably do the run.

Here's the registration info sort of in English if anyone needs it. mit Zeitmessung would be with chip timing and ohne Zeitmessung would be without. Online registration until 30. September 2005, onsite registration at the Chinese Tower for 3 euros extra.

Shame that is seems it's only open to women.

A reason why it's only open to women is that although the website focuses on Avon to the exclusion of almost everything else, actually one of the major reasons behind it is to focus on breast cancer and promote awareness of the epidemic-like proportions of this disease plus the need for more varied, personalized and open-minded treatment (ie more emphasis on holistic methods to complement Schulmedizin and machines that go Ping!, while also promoting medical research and advancement). Although I know men get breast cancer too (oh yes - and if a mammogram is tough on us, girls, it's apparently quite a bit tougher on men!! or at least so some tough-cookie nurse told me the last time she was in the middle of squashing my tits to paper thinness between two glass plates and ignoring my bellows of pain) there will be a better chance of getting media attention if a large array of Holz vor der Hütt'n goes running, or bouncing. Sorry chaps. Back to topic: Two of the sponsors are cancer societies but you have to examine the website with a fine tooth comb to find that it's actually a charity event under the motto "Women Running Against Breast Cancer", as all the big print at the top is about Avon. Even the name of the organizer (some sports marketing event company) is in bigger print than the sponsoring breast cancer charities. Compare it to the Frankfurt race last Sunday Race for the Cure. Different presentation, different emphasis - and men could take part too! (Sorry I might have got that link arseways, hope it works)

As asked before, am wondering if I can do the walk with my 4 year old and baby in buggy ? or if anyone did the walk last time and notice kids and buggies etc..
Showem
Considering it's the first walk in Munich, it's probably hard for anyone to have noticed a kid. It's through English Garden, so technically it's possible, but I don't know about whether they are encouraged or not. Kids can race, as they have a special price for anyone 15 and under. Why not call them (Tel 089 24 21 84 11) and find out?
Farley R
good idea thanks Showem..

Crusoe, yep, I kind of understand, but I also think it's important to get as many people (and as much money) as possible involved. I've done the Komen one at home and they had one start time that was women only and one start time that was mixed (included men), which was nice as sometimes men end up being the primary caregivers and the impact of having an entire family out there in support can be more powerful/unifying than just having the women. Anyway that's what I meant by it would be nice if men were allowed too.

But of course this is the 1st annual run of it's kind in Munich and who knows how it will change in the future-- and it's encouraging that it just exists anyway.

Agreed Lisa, anything is better than nothing, but what bothers me is the lack of emphasis on the charity aspect and the huge emphasis on Avon. If you scroll down the page there's a text about how it's a charity run first and foremost, apparently - so why not say so right at the top and (preferably) in the name of the run itself, and get the issue out in the open? Corporate sponsoring is fine and necessary but here it seems to be obscuring the purpose of the event. End of rant...

Hey, i only just discovered this thread. Do you think it will be possible to take part on the 5km race if i just turn up tomorrow morning or do i need to register well in advance?
