A reason why it's only open to women is that although the website focuses on Avon to the exclusion of almost everything else, actually one of the major reasons behind it is to focus on breast cancer and promote awareness of the epidemic-like proportions of this disease plus the need for more varied, personalized and open-minded treatment (ie more emphasis on holistic methods to complement Schulmedizin and machines that go Ping!, while also promoting medical research and advancement). Although I know men get breast cancer too (oh yes - and if a mammogram is tough on us, girls, it's apparently quite a bit tougher on men!! or at least so some tough-cookie nurse told me the last time she was in the middle of squashing my tits to paper thinness between two glass plates and ignoring my bellows of pain) there will be a better chance of getting media attention if a large array of Holz vor der Hütt'n goes running, or bouncing. Sorry chaps. Back to topic: Two of the sponsors are cancer societies but you have to examine the website with a fine tooth comb to find that it's actually a charity event under the motto "Women Running Against Breast Cancer", as all the big print at the top is about Avon. Even the name of the organizer (some sports marketing event company) is in bigger print than the sponsoring breast cancer charities. Compare it to the Frankfurt race last Sunday
Race for the Cure. Different presentation, different emphasis - and men could take part too! (Sorry I might have got that link arseways, hope it works)
