Looking for a jogging friend

Please run with me!

After two years of horrific back pain, I'm feeling better and am looking to get my sorry bum back into shape. I'm thinking of taking up jogging again, but if I don't find someone to run with me chances are I'll never get past buying the winter running outfit and looking at it hang nicely in my closet.

Would anyone be interested in doing some light, slow jogging 2 or 3 times a week? I haven't jogged in two years and suspect that I quite suck, so you would either have to be patient or as unfit as I am.

So anyway let me know, yeah? I live in Neuhausen.

I've been getting back into running the last few weeks, but haven't had as much time to run as I'd like to. Maybe we can set something up.

I'm booked the next week, but am in on the New in Neuhausen, Ryan' Muddy Boot meet-up, so we could talk about it there.

Just my tuppence worth on the subject. It is great to be social in exercise but of all things I think jogging is a bad choice.

Everyone runs at a different pace so your running partner WILL be too slow or too fast, and so both will have to run at the slowest possible pace, and this is frustrating for the faster, or puts the slower under pressure to speed up.

I find just a 10% increase in my regular speed is 50% more tiring etc.

So I would suggest either doing that silly Nordic Walking 'cos everyone can go at that pace and it works the arms, or jog alone with some really nice music to take your mind off things.

If you wanna do a "social" exercise that is great, but try swimming, badminton, cycling or whatever.
Katrina
Which end of Neuhausen? And would you be doing the canal route?

I've actually thought about Nordic Walking. It's apparently quite healthy and effective.

The problem is that I hate everything about it. I hate the sticks, I hate the fancy gear, I hate the fact that people do it in large groups. I think the whole's thing's obnoxious. I've tried to like it, my osteopath even said I should do it, but I just can't. When I see them motoring along in the park with that look of deep concentration, I just want to break those damn sticks.

Apparently it's been banned in Nymphemburger park anyway 'cause people were annoyed about the noise.
More tea, Vicar?

My views and experience are totally opposite, JE.

I run faster than most people I run with because running is my main hobby (not because I am a gifted sportsman. I wish I was). But having some company is more than worth slowing down.

There are all sorts of runs. Hard runs, timed runs, holiday runs, social runs and runs with girlfriends.
Showem
Time for Showem's broken record about joining the Munich Hash House Harriers.

And here good reasons why to join. What's not mentioned there is the social bit of running with others.
Yeti
I dunno Showem, you only mention free beer three times in that linked post. It can't be much good then.

you don't have to have fancy gear or do it in a group

Still, it would be so uncool wouldn't it? Must be cool - perhaps rollerblading

if it's been awhile since you've run and you're god awful slow and hideously out of shape then let me know b/c that's me and it'd be fun to run w/ others b/c i always do better and go longer/further! smile.gif

I think that's the best I've ever heard anyone put it. "When I see them... I just want to break those damn sticks." LOL

Unfortunately I live by Ostbahnhof, not Neuhausen. No one else from TT seems to live here that goes running. So I am forced to schedule it, set aside time, then not allow myself to do anything else that evening until after I run. Sometimes I lose it for a busy week or two but often enough, I prevail. Let's see if it keeps up when it's dark and -5C after work!
