English pubs in Munich

Last night of the proms - where to view?

Are there any English pubs in Munich? I know there are Irish pubs, Australian bars, and all the rest, but as far as I know the only English pub in town closed down - a couple of years ago now?

Is anywhere having a Last Night of the Proms "do" tomorrow?
Topsy
there used to be the Winchester Arms on Maistr. but that's long gone now
it was always pretty empty, anyway, IIRC

There were 2 English pubs that I know of, The St George (now The Arc) and The Beatles Bar in Occum Str, now (in my opinion) one of the best Indian restaurants in town, (looks shit but the food is excellent).

I've had conversations about English bars abroad with English people and foreigners alike and the conclusion was the problem with the Brits reputation in general as being a rowdy bunch of pissheads.

Basically johnny foreigner doesn't want to go to an English bar where one might get beaten up, stared at, picked on, pissed on, shit on or have those sharp pointy things called darts flying past their heads or meet crowds of rowdy football supporters "speed drinking". Instead, Johnny foreigner would rather go to an Irish bar (with countless said English in anyway) because although the Irish reputation is also one of a drinkin nation, they are much more jovial & friendy pissed as opposed to aggresive pissed, AND Guiness is Irish!

Believe me, we've discussed this before and that was the conclusion!!!

Er . . the proms thing ....sorry no idea.

Rick, who used to run The English Pub on Maistrasse now runs The Outland Aussie Bar on Weissenburgerpl next to Rosenheimerpl S Bahn.

Only aussie thing is the bar staff, it's an english pub with the usual Sky TV, english breakfasts, crisps and whathaveyou.

Good few of us get in depending on whether it's beer garden weather or not, no pun intended biggrin.gif

Yes, that was the type of English pub I was looking for smile.gif

Okay, maybe not.

I've been in quite a few Irish/Ozzie bars, including Gunthers I think, and none of them have that feel of an English pub. I don't mean stuck on beams on the ceiling or any of that... in fact I don't really know exactly what I do mean, it is more of an atmosphere thing.

I suppose I'm just going to have to be a sad cnut and watch the Proms at home then. Do you think the neighbours will mind if I turn the sound up when Jerusalem comes on? unsure.gif

The Beatles Bar in Occum Str

A Hard Day's Night. Top place. Shame it closed.

Their quiz night was fun - but the quiz master often got the answers wrong.

English pubs in Munich - there used to be a couple, but they've long since closed.

@ Malcolm: "Getting the answers wrong" is a euphemism for what Adrian did ... There will be Nights of the Proms in Munich in December, http://www.muenchen.de/verticals/Veranstal...oftheproms.html

That's the Nokia Night of the Proms. Completely different to the the classic Albert Hall events. An eclectic mix of modern rock and classical. Good, nonetheless, but very different...
