Swimming pool entry woes

Prices - Is there a cheaper way?

I'm very confused by all the payment scales for swimming pool entry.

This would be my ideal: Get a monthly or "x-er" entry pass that would allow a significant discount for those of us who want to swim laps for 30 minutes several times a week. It's really hard to pay 2.90 for the Sommerbaeder (and probably more for the Hallenbaeder, I'm still deciphering it all). Seems like there are so many payment systems based on pool, time of day, some sort of benefit card, multiple entry passes that may or may not be valid everywhere... and all the info is in German.

Does anyone get it? If so, can you explain it to me in English, please?

Thanks!
kathie
O.K, my suggestion would be, you tell me/us exactly which swimming pool you want to go to and ideally post a link to their website and I/someone else will translate it for you!!

all the Munich Baths are 'connected' if you buy a 5-er card you can use it in all the baths.
a 5-er card costs 16€ with 15% discount (€ 13,60 if you have a StadtwerkeMuenchen card)

here's the site in English:

Hey, thanks! I'm in a hotel lobby and my laptop battery is about to give, so I'll find/post the info pages next time.

not sure the English links on the page work so pm me if you need some help with the stuff in German.

You might want to look at this site http://www.toytowngermany.com/munich/Swimming_pools which list the prices & some description, but I don't know how up-to-date it is. I don't see why I would want to buy a 5-er card when it works out to be the same single-entry price per entry.

Here is the entry price list http://www.swm.de/m-baeder/pages/preise.htm,

If you want to swim only 30 min lap, there is a Schwimmertarif for 1.70 Euro valid for 1 1/2 hours, Mo - Sa 7.30 - 10.00 a.m. and from 21.30 hr. (Dantebad's morning swim is from 9.00 - 11.30 a.m. and Wed: 7.00 - 9.30 a.m.). Valid at CERTAIN indoor pools.

I find pools in Munich VERY expensive. I'm a student so I join the Zentrale Hochschulsport which is only 15 Euro for a whole semester (about 5 months??) Apparently as non-students, you can also join that but I can't be bothered to read about the requirements.

The membership looks pretty limited according to the site (in German). Swimming info (in German)
Moonboot
bummer, yeah just read it, cuz I know it's really cheap.
am sure a colleague at work does an aerobics class with them (she's not a student) will try to find out more...
Katrina
Yeah Moonboot, can't see how come Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst gets in but we don't (it says something about related institutions).
Moonboot

It's true too that swimming timing is limited (can't remember off my head) but in the semester holidays, which is now, I can swim everyday at any and every hour! The open-air swimming pool still win the vote for me on most (hot) days laugh.gif

membership costs 124 Euros a year in the Förderverein des Zentralen Hochschulsports, which also gets you into the Uni facilities and courses. This is how non-students do it.

Do you know if they have any facilities (gym, pool) near the unis in the center of town?

Hi,

Have you heard about the „schwimmertarif“? With that ticket you can swim at the M-Bäder swimming pools from 9:30 PM. And it’s very cheap, for example, at Michaelibad costs €2,10 for 90 minutes. You can buy it every day.

OK, it’s only 90 minutes, but if you only want to swim… cool.gif
