Ok, now first, here in SA, there is a lot of gardening services,
Private and professional.

If one had to start such a business, how successful would it be?

What do you think...? Is it something to look into or not?

Thanx

i've also considered this, as i am really a landscape designer masquerading as a marketing specialist. as i'm currently unemployed it's an option but i've been out of the business for a while and think i'd need to spend some time genning up on the german plant names and materials (plus my german in general) before doing it.

if your german is good, then there are lots of wealthy folk in the area who i'm sure would be happy to pay. the toughest bit (having run my own business in the uk, designing and building/planting gardens), is building up a client base to keep you in the money; also getting to now all the relevant contacts and building relationships with them.

You can look into it, but I'm pretty sure you need some kind of Bavarian Ausbildung to do it.
My ex (the one before last) was a gardener and at some stage we were dreaming about him setting up his own business, and I have a vague recollection that he couldn't do it because he didn't have his Meisterprüfung. But I could be wrong, it's over 6 years ago now.
Ask at the Arbeitsamt.

Not to mention getting your snowshoveling skills up to speed. I worked with a landscape gardener here for a while. He had too much work in the summer and plenty time off in the winter. Couple of big clients with building complexes and a few private customers so he was able to survive, just about.

The Meisterprüfung regulations have been changed so you can set up a Business now without it, it governed training apprentices mostly anyway.

yeah, you have to take the winter off
you used to get "Wintergeld" from the state, but with all the reforms and stuff I'm not sure whether you still would
and if you're self-employed you probably wouldn't qualify, anyhow
